I got a wonderful gift card from my amazing boyfriend for Christmas. It was 100.00 for victorias secret. I decided I would look online to find something "sexy" for him...so I check out the website and find a nighty that is XL/16. Well I am currently wearing size 18 jeans after losing 45 lbs and they are beginning to be too big on me. So I thought that MAYBE I would have some luck. I recieved my pricey purchase today via UPS and tried it on. My first thought was...how could my boyfriend EVER think I was remotely attractive??!!!....I looked like a teal sausage with ruffles. It was SUCH a blow to my self esteem. I thought about returning it and just getting yet another bra. Instead...I think I will keep it...I am going to make this my Valentines Day goal lingerie. The goal being to look decent in it. So...I guess victorias secret isn't ruining my life...I guess it's just another bump in the road. :-/

Its not the clothes he sees as sexy it you feeling confident and sexy0

sometimes lingerie just doesn't look good for some reason! i have felt this before too, and i feel more comfortable in PJ pants lol! But that is a good goal!0

Use it as motivation to reach your goals! When you reach xx pounds or x size reward yourself by using your gift card! :flowerforyou:0
-
Definitely use it as motivation to reach your goals but its also important to find something that makes you feel sexy as you are now!0

Sometimes you have to find the right style of lingerie that is right for you. For instance corset tops look great on me because I have broad shoulders, a busty chest, and a small (ish) waist. But the teddies & fitted lace slips look TERRIBLE on me and make me look like a heffer because I'm too curvy for them.
These kinds of things are all trial and error to find the perfect match. I think its a great idea to use the lingerie you bought as motivation for V-Day, though! Good luck! I know you can do this!0 -
Interesting it's ruining yours.
Cause it's really enlightened mine.0 -
Check out Lane Bryant....we have some really cute stuff and they are making it trendier for younger chicks and prettier colors0

I think you're absolutely right to make it a goal. And if it doesn't work by Valentine's Day (very sweet of you, btw), just set a new goal. Maybe when you achieve it, get something the next size down and just keep setting goals. Main thing, never get discouraged. There are bumps, for sure. Try to make them a bump up, not a downer. Good for you!!0

I always suggest black lingerie. Black is much more slimming than any color, plus i think its way sexier against pale skin =]0

don't blame vs, angels are huge motivation to almost every girl on this site, the reason why we're becoming skinny! just use it as a motivation and work hard, nothing wakes you up like seeing yourself almost naked in the mirror (i used to avoid looking at myself in my underwear, but now as i lost some weight i enjoy it)0

Girl, I have felt the same way. I have spent hours in the dressing room of VS trying on lingerie. It sucks sometimes and it's hard to think that your other half would think you look sexy if you don't like what you see in the mirror!
But honestly (like said before), you gotta find the right fit. I look great in corset type things with boy shorts because I'm curvy. Give me a teddy and a thong...FORGET IT.
But hey, you keep working at it as a goal! BUT realize that you are a women and you are sexy, so find something that makes you feel that way!!0 -
I just bought some very attractive lingerie at Fashion Bug. I am a size 28 too and it is very flattering to my figure. You might check them out.0

Victoria's secret is lame anyway.
Even at my smallest all of the bra's they had in my size were UGLY. They cater to small chested women! Lame.
I am sorry you felt less than sexy thoughI have a feeling your man would think you looked great in it even if you didn't think so! Obviously he think's you are sexy the way you are now, or he wouldn't even think to get a gift card to victoria's secret

When I was thin, I LOVED lingerie. Now I look like a whale in it. That is one of my goals: look good in lingerie again.0

totally agreed.0 -
I know how you feel! I always get sexy things to wear for my boyfriend and when I put them on I am like, "Oh no, I look like a sausage". But he ALWAYS finds it sexy because I pretend like I don't notice the bad spots. I think that Valentine's Day is a great goal but remember, even if you don't think you look perfect in it by then, he will probably think it is sexy as hell. Also, it is the person who loves you that you are wearing it for. It isn't like we are wearing this stuff out to the movies or something. He will love it because he loves you. If he was really worried about it, he would not have given you the gift card.0

I'm not losing weight to look like a VS angel...
Anyways - Good on you for being brave and purchasing something out of your comfort zone! The important thing to remember is he wouldn't have given you the gift card if he didn't want to see you in it. You are already his VS angel. Rock that thing!0 -
Victoria's Secret is evil. You remember that horrible scene in Pretty Woman, where the snobby clerk at the fancy boutique takes one look at Julia Roberts and refuses to help her? Pretty much the same scenario when I walked into a Victoria's Secret. "Who are you buying for, dear?" "For me." "Oh, I don't think we have anything for you here." The stubborn, contrary part of me wanted to say "Well, I'll just look around on my own then," or better yet, tell her off. But the shy, insecure part of me was too horribly embarrassed and I just left. Needless to say, no matter how much weight I lose I will NEVER set foot in one of their stores again.
Apparently they don't carry bra sizes above C cup in their stores, and they don't make *any* of their bras larger than DD cup. Never mind that they take the pictures of their flat-chested anorexic models and airbrush them to look like they have a ton of cleavage... apparently, women who are curvy in real life are not welcome.0 -
Thanks everyone! Its tough trying to stay positive sometimes. I was able to buy my first bra from VS and that was a success. I guess I was feeling over confident and just expected that the lingerie would look good on me too. My bf would be happy if I wore a trash bag to bed. lol I just want to feel as sexy as he thinks I am. I am thinking about trying the 30 day shred and seeing if that will help. I don't want to return it because then I lose. It will just motivate me to kick butt and be fit. This is so new for me. I have always been a big girl, now I think maybe I have a shot at being a small one. :-) Everyone on MFP is soooo helpful and supportive. Thank you all so much!0

I think anger would have gotten the best of me in that situation and beat the hell outta that girl. I hate when people are mean, it's easy for them to look down on someone else when they have never been full figured. They don't realize how big of a challenge it is, and how much bravery it takes, just to walk into one of those stores. When we get thin, we can show the world how to really treat people of all sizes.0 -
"So...I guess victorias secret isn't ruining my life...I guess it's just another bump in the road. :-/ "
It's just more motivation!I can agree with that though. I find lingerie that is so adorable and I think I'll look sooo hot in it but I put it on and it just squishes all the fat in the wrong places.
But as said, it's YOU that he sees sexy, no matter what you're wearing.
Just think of it as more motivation instead of all the negative things.0 -
Use it as motivation! You've got this girl!0
-
Shoot!!! Huge typo...I just realized. I am not a size 28. I am a size 18. Nonetheless, Fashion Bug had cute lingerie for a bigger girl.0
