I just can't do it....

I don't really have a lot to lose. I'm not fit, so I'm pretty much here to get that. But, I see so many people on here burning 400...600 calories everyday, and I just don't get how you do it. I can barely burn 300 without feeling like I'm going to pass out. Am I doing something wrong? I don't understand how someone who might be 300 lbs could burn so many calories and I'm in the 120s and I can't do it.
I really don't mean to offend anyone, and I'm really sorry if this comes off being rude, because I don't don't mean it in a bad way. :flowerforyou: I'm actually very impressed by you guys, but I wonder why I can't do it. UGH!!! :explode:

The more you weigh, the more you're going to burn. People who weigh more have a higher maintenance level and Basal metabolic rate. What activities are you doing? You should be able to burn 400-600 if you're keeping your heart rate up in your target zone for 40+ minutes per day...0 -
I try to do the treadmill or the elliptical. I burn more on the elliptical of course, but I can't run faster than a 5 on the treadmill and even that, I have to stop and start and I can barely get above 200 in thrity minutes.0

I'd look at a few habits.
What your diet does consist of.
If your getting enough sleep.
If you are burning more through your daily activity then you think.
Also, remember "bigger" people have more mass to move which means more calories burned. I weigh around 180 and the max I've been able to burn is around 350 calories (in a 60 minute workout). Of course, I am built like a freakin clydsdale (lots of muscle under that fat).
I would focus on the type of exercises you are doing if you are wanting to focus mainly on toning.
Make sure you are mixing it up, not all cardio.
Make sense?0 -
It does get easier the more you exercise. When I first started I was thrilled that I could last 15 minutes on the ellipitcal. I set myself little goals to add more time and calories burned and it worked, now I can ellipitcal with the best of them. I slowly added different types of exercises too so that I woudn't get burned out or complacent with what I was doing. I was disappointed when I started losing the weight and realized that it would take more time and effort for me to burn the same amount of calories that I did when I was heavier. You can do this, just give it time, remember the weight and unfitness didn't happen overnight and you can't expect to be fit overnight either. :flowerforyou:0

The more you weigh the more you burn. It takes a lot more to move 300 pounds than to move 120 pounds. Thats why for some one to maintain 300 pounds they have to eat way more than someone trying to maintain 120 calories. As the 300 pound person loses they burn less calories for the same amount of exercise, and they also require less calories. And it also depends on how long and how hard to exercise.0

Remember that you do not have to burn 300 or 400 calories by running yourself to death...you can also burn them by walking and you don't have to do it at one time...0

that makes sense. thanks all. :flowerforyou:
I really can't work out more than 45 minutes in a day. It's not that I'm busy and I can't get it in, but I just feel totally out of breath after that time.
I've done cardio and I'm trying to mix it up with strength training, but when I do strength training, I can't move my muscles for a few days, so then I just walk on the treadmill or use the elliptical.
It's interesting, ChubbyBunny, that sleep could affect the way I workout. I am newly married, so I'm still getting used to my husband's snoringso there are a few days when I can't sleep to well. I'll try the different tricks out. Thanks again. :flowerforyou:

It is true. The less you weigh, the harder it is to burn the calories. I have lost 100 pounds and at my heaviest, I could burn 600 calories in 45 minutes. Now, like today for example, I did Levels 1 and 2 of the 30day shred combined, and I only burned 330 calories. I weigh 160 pounds. Just do some form of moderate exercise daily, eat healthy and the rest will fall into place!:flowerforyou:0

Get a heart rate monitor. The monitors on the machine aren't accurate anyway. The HRM provides a constant read and can tell you how many calories you're actually burning.0
