Is there a device that CONTINUOUSLY counts your calorie burn

Hey MFP Fam,

I'm looking for a heart rate monitor or similar device that measures your calorie burn ALL DAY. Every heart rate monitor (HRM) that I've reviewed online tells me that it can only calculate the calories your burn during the period of time you are exercising. The only thing that I've found that comes remotely close to what I'm looking for is the Jawbone UP, but if you're familiar with the product, you've seen the negative reviews its received and the refunds they've given everyone who purchased it.

So the question is, does anyone know of a product that continually counts the calories your burn ALL DAY, including during exercise? I feel like if I find a device like this (if one exists) it would help me take my weight loss to the next level.

Thanks for your help fam!

I've been researching the BodyMedia Fit for awhile. I haven't actually bought one yet though so I cannot attest to how well it works. It straps on to your upper left arm and you leave it there all day. It even tells you how well you sleep. You plug it in to your computer to see your progress. There is an optional display you can buy to tell you throughout the day how many calories you've burned or there's a model that will sync with a smartphone (ie. iPhone).

You can do a search on here and there have been some other threads. There's another model by the same company called BodyBug that is now used in conjunction with Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem I think.

    Fitbit
    Jawbone UP
    BodyMediaFit
    BodyBugg

I have to say though they are all PURELY estimates and are generally pretty inaccurate. If you know your estimated BMR and current activity level you should be able to estimate what your intake needs to be. I'd just track my actual excersize calories and any excess movement you happen to have throughout the day as a freebie. Better to underestimate in some cases, i think.

Look them up, review them, make sure its something you NEED. They are pricey, but easily accessible if you decide one is right for you.

Edit: Just a personal note i did a ton of research on this beacuse i thought the same thign myself a few months ago. I ended up deciding to get a normal HRM (Polar FT7) to track my intentional exersize... i just didnt think it was the right thing for me to spend 200+ dollars on something that is going to estimate. :)

Yeah you make a good point, I thought the Jawbone UP would be that product, but its riddled with so many problems I'll wait for the next generation to come out.

I'll research those ones you suggested and see which of them I like.
