First, let me explain why i purchased this item. I had HRM on my Christmas list. My dad, being the super dude that he is, bought me a Garmin HRM chest strap with a wireless transmitter. He wasn't aware that it needed a Garmin device to pair it with. So, i went on Amazon and found a great deal.

I ended up buying the FR60 bundle which came with the sport watch, foot pod, and another chest strap with the wireless HRM transmitter. Free shipping. Awesome.

I HAVE SPENT TWO DAYS OF MY LIFE TRYING TO FIGURE THIS %$@! GADGET OUT. The box contained a flimsy little quick start manual, and gave you the web address to read the full manual (which by the way, still sucked). The Garmin ad/slogan/whatever you call it clearly stated that this device would track calories, speed, distance, HR, etc. But i was mostly concerned with the fact that i can monitor (read: estimate) the caloric info.

guess what folks? It most certainly did NOT track calories burned. i fiddled with the settings and training pages for hours. It drove me mad. I couldnt stop playing with the thing and trying different combos on the settings. Even at work. Even when i should have been sleeping.

Let's cut my witch session short here, and get to the point. I FINALLY got it to track calories burned by going onto the Garmin website and figuring out that the device i had in my hand required an update. I followed the download instructions and VOILA.... it finally does what i want it to do.

Now, if only i can get my stupid foot pod to work.

I posted this in case any of you have this item and had same issue i had. I would hate to see anyone lose sleep over this simple software update that GARMIN could have been cool enough to tell us about (like maybe in the box that the device came in????? or somewhere in the manual????? or on a freaking sticky note????)

on the watch, push Mode, then History, selct the workout you wish to view, then push Enter.
It will show the calories burned.
