P90X Diet Help

Hey,
So I have rec'd P90X for my birthday yesterday and I've spent today looking through the information, with the idea of starting 1st Jan.
I want to try and stick with the diet as best I can, but there are a few questions. Wondering if anyone can help?
1) Is cornmeal/ polenta ok to eat? And would it come under carbs?
2) I usually eat more than the recommended fruit/veg - is it ok to be over?
3) Is honey ok? Or is added sugars just not allowed?
4) I'm not really into the supplements.... my budget certainly doesn't allow it. I thought about trying a protein powder to bump up the protein, but other than that, are the other things really essential?
Thanks very much!

I ran a 40/30/30 Macro during P90X. I am starting insanity and they recommend a 40/40/20 (ugh i love my fat lol).
At the end i resorted to shakes. I just could not get all the protein in through food.0 -

Cornmeal would be a starch, which would be a carb.
It is generally ok to over eat veggies, but not fruit. Fruits, while healthy, have a higher amount of sugar than if you were to eat broccoli or carrots, ect.
In my opinion, honey is fine, in moderation. You've got to have a little wiggle room, otherwise you will burn out on the diet really fast.
Really all you need is protein powder if you want some added protein in your diet. Chocolate milk is a great recovery(post work-out) drink for those of use with limited budgets.
My wife and I started our second round of P90x this past week, so if you need some motivation or explanation, feel free to message me.
My biggest advice is to not get discouraged the first week, because you will be sore as all get out.
Good luck!

I eat lots of fruit on P90X, never created a problem. I am not anti sugar, nor anti-fruit. Have lost 60 pounds with fruit still in my diet.
Just use common sense and moderation. Fruits have lots of great antioxidants, and many are higher fiber, which is filling, and satisfying. And a green apple with some peanut butter- yum!
I personally do not follow the P90X food plan. It does not match my family's eating lifestyle. I just make good food choices, and stay in my calorie ranges, and macro goal for protein, and fat.
Protein shakes will give more protein grams, then an identical size serving of chocolate milk. Just something to keep in mind.
I have done P90X 7 times, I use a 40/30/30 macro mix roughly, aiming for at least 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass.
A good muivitamin is recommended, and I personally need protein shakes to meet my macros and stay in my calorie goals. But you can see what works best for you.
Other supplements are not necessary, though I personally do have others I use from time to time. But you can great great results without them.

You can adjust your ratios on MFP so that you can play around with food you have access to and see if you are getting the right amount of protein, carbs and fats. Just change it to the ratios recommended in phase 1. The diet is advised if you hope to get optimal results from the program.
I wouldn't just go with any protein powder out there, there are some bad ones for a cheap price. So if you cannot afford a good one, stick with real food and get your protein from there, egg whites, chicken, cottage cheese etc. You will lose weight if you stay in your calorie range, but your actual body composition might be different if you follow the actual plan that comes with the program.0 -
