Change in the way my body handles spicy foods?

I love hot wings. I used to go out about once a month for them and never had any issues. It's been less often once I joined MFP and realized how many calories I was consuming in a single sitting, but I still enjoy them from time to time.

Now after losing 50+ lbs, the past 2 trips out for wings have left me with ridiculous stomach pains. The first time I just wrote it off. Now that it happened again I'm starting to think maybe I can no longer handle the hot stuff.

Anyone else see something similar? Is it possible this is from weight loss/eating healthier in general?

Im no expert in this but two things in my personal experience:
    1. your tolerance or intolerance to spices depends upon how much you have regularly. Its sort of that body builds resistance to hotness and you have to have more of it to feel the same :)
    2. If something is very chilli or hot, then having a plain yoghurt helps to cool down the burning sensation. It may sound weird, but try it.

    cheers.

It might be that your body can no longer handle the grease as well as it used to.

^^This may be an issue for you. I like spicy foods more now and assumed it was because I've replaced sweet foods.
  • It's probably the grease or the amount of fat. I noticed the same thing when I ate chicken wings. Mine were hot, but I eat spicy food ALL the time still, and I had horrible stomach cramps for the rest of the day. Same thing happened another time when I ate something else that was high in fat and it always happens when I eat things high in sugar. It's not natural for our bodies, but we get used to it. When it's taken away for a while, our body has to readjust and then it's a shock to the system.

Thanks! Good to know about the grease/fat.
I'll try spicing up some rice or grilled chicken sometime and see if that makes a difference.
