Long threads

Why do people get so worked up over long threads? Is there something compelling you to look at it? If you are sick of it, why not stop looking at it and let the people who want to discuss continue to discuss as long as they want? I just do not get it....

I've seen half a dozen long threads made longer by numerous posts like:

"This is the thread that never ends."

"Can't we all just agree to disagree?"

"This needs to stop."

As my daddy says, those people wouldn't be happy if they were hung with a new rope. Some just like to gripe!

I can understand it so long as there is legitimate discussion going on in the thread. When people just start talking about unrelated things or just to get a post in something it drives me nuts.

That's just the most recent one.... I don't know. I don't see why not stop looking at it if it bugs so bad.

There was another one about feeding your kids junk food. One woman posted a series of half a dozen one-word responses just to lock out the thread. Ridiculous!

I just can`t read all of this.
  • I think that the people you are talking about are just unhappy in their lives and want to make other people unhappy. You know misery loves company. Just ignore them. They are not worth the time. Keep your good attitude and keep doing what you are doing and they will just be a breeze that passes you by in your journey.

    Be blessed.

Haha I've never thought to do that but there have been a few threads where I've commented, the discussion gets pointless, but it keeps jumping up to the top of my "recent threads" list every time someone else commented and I was SO glad when it finally hit 500 and locked out so it would go away. I wish there was a way to unfollow/ignore a thread you've commented in if you decide you're not interested in it anymore.

Shouldn't a person have willpower enough to see it on the list and not click on it?

Um, yes, and I do. But that page only shows 25 threads and if someone is active in a lot of threads then having something that they're not interested in constantly moving to the top might be bumping more interesting/important but less active off the list.

OK! I don't follow that many threads (maybe 5 or 6 at a time before they totally die), so that is something I had not thought of... I had not expected a genuine answer from this topic, but there it is. You should suggest your unfollow idea to the admins. I bet there are a lot of people who would use it.
