We all know gimmicky fad diets don't work. But do you ever see gimmicky fad tips 'n' tricks type of stuff that AREN'T related to weight loss?

For example, I'm an artist, and I know there's no shortcut to improving your art. It's a lot like weight loss. Yet I see people offering to teach less experienced artists, talking about "fast results" and all these neat tricks. NO! Art doesn't work that way.

Some of their tips can be compared to spot reduction tricks: this shiny new ab exercise machine can certainly strengthen your abs, but 1) you can get the same results by doing crunches, and 2) it WON'T make you lose belly fat, nor give you a six pack. Helpful -- but not what you're hoping for.

Stupid gimmicks! They're all around us and they drive me up the wall.

Its true in most things in life..there is always someone looking for a quick way out, or to make a quick buck, and is willing to something with a little less quality and a little less skill in order to offer a cheaper price. People willing to pay that price are rightful prey.

I do replacement roofing. The right way is to tear off the old used-up materials and install new underlayment, new flashing, new shingles and improved attic ventilation. I constantly see companies saying its okay to put new shingles on top of old ones, or that the old ways of ventilating a roof are okay, or the flashing isn't leaking so why change it, etc. The worst is when a storm moves thru an area and 'storm chasers', like lawyers who are ambulance chasers, move in to a neighborhood and try to convince the homeowners they have damage and are entitled to a 'free' roof from their insurance company. 'Free' is never free. You and I all pay increased premiums because of it. The homeowner gets a sub-standard roof that has little or no warranty. Its a shame.

But at least I know all I have to do to lose weight is take a little magic pill! You know, the one the drug companies don't want you to know about and the FDA won't approve because the economy would collapse. :ohwell:
