Ruptured Achilles Tendon??

Have you ever tore or ruptured your Achilles tendon?
I'm entering my second month since my injury and just a little over 1 month since my repair. I will have my cast removed next week and move back to a boot and then will start rehab at some point. I have been unable to get an expected idea how long I will remain on crutches and in rehab. I know that I will not be walking the next day, but having a better idea than the original 6-8 weeks would be greatly appreciated. I feel that the answers the docs are giving me have been both upsetting at times and hopeful at others. I'd just like to hear other people experiences and recovery if you wouldn't mind sharing.
I truly miss working out and can not wait until I can return to my normal activities.

I haven't actually torn mine, but I have taken classes in athletic training, which is basically rehabbing athletes after injuries, as part of my degree in exercise physiology. So, while I'm not a physical therapist and there is definitely some variability between individuals, 6-8 weeks sounds about right for rehabbing after a surgical repair to me. I want to say that was about how long it took to rehab after my knee surgeries, but those were a few years ago so I can't remember for sure.
As for working out, as long as you can sit up you can do boxing drills for cardio, upper body weight training, and resistance band work for the other leg. I've recently sprained all the ligaments in my ankle and pulled a small piece of bone off my fibula from one of those ligaments hanging on a bit too tight, so I'm kind of in the same boat with having to workout around an ankle that is unable to be used. Luckily, mine is in an air cast so I can take it off and do Pilates too. You could probably do Pilates mat work, too, but the cast may be a bit heavy for some of those moves.0 -
Thank you for your response. So far the 4th of Jan will be 8weeks from seeing a specialist and being told that I would most likely need surgery. So, it seems that it may be an additional 6-8 weeks after having my hard cast removed to going to a boot?
My husband did purchase and put together a weight set so I can work upper body (though I think I injured my right arm prior to this injury, have to get that checked out too). I am definitely open to ideas to somewhat stay active during my recovery. My left leg is also starting to hurt from over use and compensation. I feel like I am starting to fall apart and totally bummed about this. One of my biggest fears of all, is gaining too much because even if I am waived from my fitness test, I still have to be in weight standards.0
