Anybody from Denver, CO, or around there?

I'm going out to Denver January 13th for a week on my own to visit a friend. I'm flying but will have access to a car. He will be working 9 to 5 so it'll be up to me to entertain myself daily. I'm looking for suggestions from locals on things to do that are either free or cheap.

I love hiking, and as a photographer, want to find the best things to capture. I also enjoy art museums and want to immerse myself in the local culture, and maybe some good local beer.
