Walking calories burned

I'm a bit confused about something. I walked about a mile yesterday and it took me 30 minutes and I burned a certain amount of calories, but tonight I stepped it up and pushed myself to do it in 20 minutes and it says I burned fewer calories (MFP). Wouldn't I have burned more calories if I gave myself more of a workout even though the time was shorter, or at least the same amount? It was still the same distance, I just walked a bit faster...more of a workout, right?

If you walk or run the same distance, theoretically you will burn about the same number of calories (maybe more fat versus non-fat calories), one will just take you longer. I highly recommend getting a heart rate monitor, it will make life much easier!0

You would have walked at a different pace which would have burned more or the same calories. It's hard to work it out (pace vs time and distance) without a HRM. I used to always understimate rather than over estimate and now I have my HRM so there's no more guesswork0
