Here are the requirements from the site:
Requirements for Donating Your Hair
In order to make the most beautiful, realistic and durable wigs, donated hair must meet the requirements below.
* Donated hair must be a minimum of 8 inches long (measure hair from just above the elastic band of the ponytail to the ends).
* Wavy/curly hair texture is fine—you may straighten hair to measure.
* Hair should be freshly washed and completely dry, without any styling products.
* Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.
* Hair may not be more than 5 percent gray.
Here's why:
* It takes at least six ponytails to make a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig; in general, each ponytail comes from a different person and is a different color. Even though some hair colors may look similar, including gray hair, each is completely unique.
* For a realistic-looking wig that has consistent color throughout, donated ponytails must be processed and then dyed to the same shade. It is critical for each ponytail to absorb dyes at the same rate in order to create wigs of consistent, natural-looking color.
* Gray hair, as well as some chemically-treated or permanently-colored hair, does not absorb dye at the same rate as other types of hair. It is much harder to color and, once colored, fades more quickly.
* Most permanently-colored hair, once it is processed and re-colored, is too fragile and breakable under the rigorous processing required during the production of a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig.
In appreciation of the sacrifice that a hair donation requires, Pantene Beautiful Lengths only accepts hair it knows can be used for its intended purposes.

Give me a month, woman! Geesh!
I'm excited to be able to bump this when I get my hair cut in April with my pics, too!
Still, Lauryn! LOVE the hair!0 -
I was so excited when you said certain hair colors were ok.... But then I actually read the details... I'm about 50% grey (which is why I started coloring my hair--who wants to be in their 20's with grey). I still manage to use the wash out colors, but it is getting to the point I'm going to have to have it professionally done with permanent colors (I'm 38 now, my dad was completely grey by the time he was in his 40's)0

Oh, poo. I know that Locks of Love will still take the gray hair, but they sell it for $. *shrug* I'm not sure how I feel about it, but that's an option as well!
Love the av, Pett! :laugh:0 -

Yes, but Locks of Love also doesn't take color treated. That's mine! At least mine is color treated to about the last half inch right now... Gone over my month by a couple of weeks :blushing:0 -

Oh, I'm sorry Robin.
I haven't dyed my hair in YEARS and then I only grabbed the box of dye from the shelf at Walmart, so I know nothing about hair dyes! Can you switch over to one of those "allowed" hair dyes?Give me a month, woman! Geesh!

I hate that I didn't have the camera with me to take a "before" or "during" photo. (Not that my crummy husband would have helped.) Next time I will be sure to take them before and after.0 -

If you know someone who needs a wig or just a lift in spirits or some individual attention, the American Cancer Society has the Look Good Feel Better program. It's free. Beauticians are trained to help patients with hair, wig, makeup, turbans, whatever is needed when a person goes through cancer treatment.
:flowerforyou:
Free.
Wigs for free - just ask at the cancer treatment center & they'll set it up.

I'm in the process of growing mine out now for Locks of Love. I donated a little over a foot last year. I had no idea they charge. Thank you for letting us know and I will write this info down for the next time.0
