Hi all,
I'm really feeling discouraged today. I've changed my way of eating since my 40th B'day, June 2008. I joined MFP on Janurary 5th and have been tracking my calories and exercise ever since. I've lost a grand total of 5lbs since being here and have learned sooo much from all of you. I don't think I would have lost what i have without the MFP Family. :flowerforyou:
I've attached a link to a document that shows 2 weeks worth of my food diary.... my exercise calories are shown also. Please, Please, Please take a look and tell me your opinion on where I'm going wrong... I know I have a sweet tooth, but I'm working really hard at eating healthier and feel I earn a treat when I exercise. All of your attention and opinions will be valued immensely

I peeked at it. I'm not sure you have any PROBLEM. You don't have a ton to lose, so 5 lbs in 2 months isn't that bad, at this rate you'll be at your goal by late summer, which is a reasonable goal to have. I mean, you're staying relatively close to your goals, and a lot of it would be just peoples opinions based on their own experiences. Considering this is a peer site, if you really want to fine tune your eating, I would probably recommend going to a registered dietician. They aren't really all that expensive for a single appointment, and they can do a far more through analysis of your eating habits and make some very helpful suggestions.
I don't know if I helped any, but best luck to you anyway.

Hi spicy:
I just looked at your diary and I see (maybe?) 2 or 3 things. You generally don't eat enough (you are deficient on average 200-300 calories/day). Plus, are you tracking all your exercise correctly? You are burning a tremendous amount of calories via exercise.
I'm struggling with the same thing about not eating enough. It would seem that the less you eat, the more weight you will lose, but we are designed (especially women) to hold onto our calories if we are starving (one of the reasons women have a tougher time losing weight). I've decided to try to eat all my calories and see what happens. It makes sense that if your body is starving (because you are not getting the minimum amount), you will hold onto everything that you eat. Plus in looking at your diary...fat turns to fat...so if you eat at McDonalds and Dairy Queen, your calories are empty calories.
Just my thoughts! Good luck, I'm right there with you!
there is a tread on here about eating all your exercise calories and why it is important. I just can't remember where it is, but it was posted recently.0 -
Thank you for taking the time to peek at my journal. :flowerforyou:
Banks - I will definately see a nutritionist... I think it's free with my insurance
Jvandertuin - thanks for your time also, you have a good point. :flowerforyou:

Hi Spicy618. I just scanned your food diary and can tell you are really trying! I'm no weight loss expert, but do have a few comments/suggestions:
--your diet seems high in protein and milk products, adding more vegetables might help
--try to eat a sensible breakfast...it looked like you weren't eating much on some days, one idea is a low-cal cereal with skim milk, fruit and coffee or an egg white scramble with lean lunch meat and veggies
--cut out fast food altogether, if that's not an option, get salads when you go to fast food restaurants with the lightest dressing available
--substitute a lower calorie snacks to satisfy your sweet tooth, for example, special K makes cereal bars that are only 90 calories each, or skinny cow has a variety of low(ish)-cal sweets
--try skim milk instead of 2%
--make sure you are drinking lots of water
--I noticed a fluctuation in your "goal calories", try letting the MFP calculator pick your goal weekly loss for you (1200 may be too low)
--In general, you seem to be keeping within your calorie allotment for the day, but some of your calories are "empty" calories, adding more substantial foods (veggies, fruits, whole grain foods) in place of some of your fast food/sweets might satisfy your hunger and provide your body with more nutrition
Hope this helps! If you want some specific ideas on veggies or anything else, please let me know! Kudos to you for making the effort to get healthy!0 -

NOT a nutritionist, a registered dietician. VERY big difference, there are no predetermined requirements for a nutritionist, where as a dietician has to complete a college degree in order
to be registered.0 -

Oh, Okay. I will make sure it's a dietician.0 -
Hi
Your journal looked OK to me
I really believe though of course we should eat as healthy as possible..it's all about cals coming in and out
I would adjust your cals and exc cals burned
Have you had b/w recently to rule out any thyroid issues?

Unable to view your diary:grumble: , but one person commented on you burning a lot of cals with exercise. Do have a hrm? I found it makes a big difference!! Good Luck! 5lbs is great!:flowerforyou:0
