Wii Fitness Games

I have a friend that is selling her Wii Fit Plus game, board, and the Jillian Michaels Ultimatum '09. I've been doing 30 Day Shred and am curious how the games compare to 30DS. I love the burn I'm getting from 30DS, and honestly now I hate to spend the same amount of time working out with less of a burn. Does anyone have any input on these Wii games and if they are worth it?

depends on what you do on the game and for how long... I think there is actually wii in the cardio section

I used the yoga every morning/night after my daughter was born. I did every position. so for that just keep track of how long you work out and log that time into yoga.

and most everything else can be logged into Aerobics :)

I use a HRM most of the time, because I find MFP's calculations to be pretty off, at least for 30 Day Shred vs. aerobics/cardio. Thanks for the help! I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the games and a HRM!

so use your HRM and add Wii Fit and log it as whatever the HRM says you burned...

I guess I just don't want to buy it if I'm never going to use it, so I was looking for some input from people who have used it.

I'm sure it has something to do with the different games. Here's my take on it. I will never get the same burn on the Wii games that I do on the elliptical or a kettlebell DVD workout. The only thing close was the "Just Dance 3" game I played today...but this is the first game that has come close. Jillian may be different, of course.

For me, some of the games have too much lag time in it - the exerbeat game is an example of spending too much time on the "game" character moving from point A to point B after I complete a 4 minute workout. :P In order to keep my heartrate up (I also have a HRM), I spend some time running in place or doing jumping jacks. :( Maybe I'm doing it wrong...because I read others have had a great workout with it...but watching my Wii character go from one place to another in miles was frustrating. I just wanted to get back to working out.

I don't have experience with the other games like Zumba, which I heard gives a pretty good burn, but as far as the Wii Fit and the Exerbeat games, I do that as a "side" and still do other things that day...

I'm sure it's different for other people, but that's my experience. I use the games as something to do to change things up and/or spend time with my kids exercising, but it will never replace my normal "go-to" cardio burns.

I think my favorites out of the games I have tried are EA Active (there are 3 of them) and Exerbeat. I based a lot of those purchases on Amazon.com reviews. I have Wii Fit, but honestly, I'm not a huge fan of it and don't find it to be too fun...but that is just me. I use Exerbeat the most because I forget I am working out while I am doing it! I do use these as supplements to my other workouts (right now the 30 DS, for example). Both EA Active and Exerbeat you can set your goal (toning, weight loss, etc.). It really does depend on what kind of a workout you like to do. If you have any questions specifically feel free to message me :-)

You can get rid of the lag time in Exerbeat FYI. You just go to Personal Trainer and set the amount of time you want to workout- no lag time anymore! :-)

I have Jillian's 2011 game. It kicks my butt! I dont know about the '09 version but '11 has resolutions where you do certain workouts every day and I'm telling you, I hurt the next day. So I can tell its doing something great. I would see if your friend will let you borrow the game and see if its something you like before buying it.

Thanks. I'll have to go check that out. I can't stand the lag time. :(

I haven't done the 30ds so I can't compare but I am doing the EA Active on the Wii and for me it is very challenging. I suspect that for someone who is already at your level it would be an unnecessary tool.

Haha I know it drove me nuts before I figured out how to bypass it :-)

I use Wii Fit, Zumba and Just Dance. I love it.

I have a friend that did a 30 min workout everyday on the Wii and followed the Slimming World diet and in eight month she lost 5 stone taking her from a UK 24 to a UK 14.

Nice! I think the biggest appeal of 30DS for me is that it's 25 minutes, and I typically burn between 220-270 calories. The sad part is that each day the calorie burn decreases a bit, and I fear that by the end of the 30 days I'm not going to be able to get as much out of it as I used to. I suppose that's a good thing, but a little disappointing, too!

I did just get Ripped in 30 and I picked up Shed and Shred today (which is 45 minute workouts instead of 25!), and maybe I'll just stick with those for now. I'm thinking if I cycle them I'll be okay!

I have Dance Dance Revolution and I feel like that doesn't do anything for me. Is Just Dance more difficult?
