I'm 18, female, and trying to lose 24 pounds.
I'm 5'6 144 pounds (healthy)
Trying to get down to 120 pounds (still healthy)
I workout but my eating is off at times
I figured if I drank a shake for breakfast and dinner with a fruit I would only be responsible for a healthy lunch.
I was thinking Lean Shake by GNC.
Advice? Don't be too negative.

My advice would be to do the following:
1) Eat at a slight calorie deficit
2) Eat mostly whole foods that you enjoy eating, with a few treats here and there if you can do so without sabotaging your diet.
3) Lift weights and be active.
4) Rest.
5) Don't micromanage the crap that doesn't matter.
Just do the above. Disregard shakes. Eat food.0 -
I think a shake or smoothie in the morning is great, but I'm going to agree with the other poster. Remember, too much "dieting" will lead to a lifetime of yo-yo's. Just decide how you would eat if you were at your goal weight. Eat healthy, take good care of yourself.
When you try to not eat, your subconscious mind goes crazy. It's against our natural instincts to limit food, so when you do, your "critter brain" takes over and says "go eat! go eat! go eat!" which leads to overeating. Try not to be in too much of a hurry, give yourself a few months and keep it off for life.
However, to answer your original question - I love a smoothie in the morning because at that time your body is in a cycle (until noon) where having to digest too much stuff can slow you down. A high nutrient smoothie is great - you get all you need, it's filling, and feels great.
In mine, I use Warrior food (from healthforce nutritionals) Vitamineral green (also from same company) a handful of raw dark leafy greens (like chard or spinach), some fruit, some raw cacao powder (yummy chocolate), a little stevia, some flax seed, and hemp milk or coconut water for a base. (It's on my food diary as well). Good luck sweetie!0 -
i have shakes a lot in the morning...just to get a good dose of protein in and it's something I can drink/eat on my commute to work. I use herbalife occasionally, but sometimes I just take plain coffee and add chocolate whey protein powder to it. It's easy for me, and then I usually eat some "real" food later on in the morning as a mid morning snack.0
