Newbie- I want to create a weightloss community!

I have been on Myfitnesspal for over a year, but I have not been active on it at all. However, after a traumatic event this past fall, I have decided that I must get healthy and put myself first, which is hard for me, especially because I am a teacher. I tend to put everyone else first, and then if there is time, I do something for myself. Although this is great for others, it isn't the best for me.

I am looking to create a community of people who are in the same boat as me- have an excessive amount of weight to lose and what to motivate each other! My hardest part is that I have no self-control, but I desperately want to get healthy! I am new at this online board, so if you would like to create a community with me where we can push and motivate each other, please don't hesitate to add or write. I KNOW you guys can do this, so now I just need to do this.

Thanks and have a GREAT new year!

Hi Katie! Welcome back! :) I hope you decide to add quite a few more people to your friend list. This site is really lonely with a bare friend list. lol I recommend adding at lest 15 active people to your friend list so that you can get the support and encouragement you need! *hug*

  • Hi Katie!

Welcome to MFP. My name is Kerissa and I'm also on track for losing over 100 lbs, so this is definitely a great place for us :-)

I just want you to know that you are stronger than you think you are. You know how I know? Because you are here. Because you're reaching out for a connection with others. It takes a lot of strength to know when you need help -- especially on a journey as important as this one.

    We're all in it together.
  • i will join you, i have alot of weight to loose as well.

    Hi Katie, welcome. :flowerforyou:

Self control is something you can develop. Start small, pick one aspect that you will control and start from there. When you get the hang of that then it's time to add something else.

For me I knew I wouldn't be able to resist junk food if there was any in the house, so I controlled it by getting rid of it all. I then had to learn how to control myself when shopping so I wouldn't replace it all with new junk!

Initially I had to be really rigid with my working out because I knew I wouldn't do it if it wasn't controlled and timetabled. Now I fit it in where I can, but it always gets done!

Baby steps. Don't try to fix everything at once.
