Hi! My name is Emily and I'm 20. I've been using myfitnesspal off and on for the past year or so, but I'd really like to get into a better regiment. I thought joining the community here might help My goal is to lose 15-20 lbs by mid-April, and I really want to build on the confidence I already have. Good luck to everyone, we can do this!

Also I have a question: I'm in art school, and my diet often consists of meals of black coffee. Does anyone know if this is particularly detrimental to weight loss? I know of course not to skip meals because of the tendency to over eat later, but does anyone know about caffeine specifically? I find it suppresses my appetite, but I'm not sure what else it might be doing. Thanks guys!!0

You want to be carefu with the caffiene hon. Not only do you retain water, but it dehydrates you. It also exhausts your adrenal glands, which ups your stress levels, which ups your cortisol levels, which makes it REALLY hard to release weight. Cut down on the coffee and drink more water, it will supress your appetite too and also help you release weight. Go girl! Hope this helps.0

Alot of caffeine at 20 years old probably won't be to hard on you (and yes are right - caffeine will suppress your appetite - see how much caffeine is in diet pills) .... but if you continue down this road of high levels in coffee consumption (especially no food!) you will have issues with your adrenal glands becoming fatigued. Which can lead to many medical problems. You should do some research on adrenal fatigue - and get informed.
I too love caffeine but decided after a couple of decays of drinking 5 or 6 cups of black tea to quit caffiene - it was a very hard 3 weeks! I would suggest you drink less coffee to start with and with every coffee you do drink, you drink a glass of water with it too. I know have one tea a day (which I do need in the morning) and sometimes if the kids are driving me a little mental - I will have another in the late afternoon .... but that is it for me .... and it works. Key to it all is moderation - but eat some food will ya!! :-)0
