Cleanse??

I wouldn't say your doctor is lying. I would say he (she?) probably honestly believes what he or she told you.
And I would find a new doctor, in that case. Unless you misunderstood.
You don't catch cold and flu from eating meat. And, again, ain't no cleanse in the world gonna get rid of a tapeworm.0 -
cleanse's are the best... you feel great after its completed...0

I use Bud 55 select, and Irish Whiskey. Best cleansing combo that I know of. Cleans those kidney's right out.0

What are you hoping to "cleanse"?
Don't waste your time, money or health. The body does an excellent job of "cleansing" itself. Just treat it right and it will treat you right. There is no "cleanse" as effective as simply eating well.
"The best way to 'detox' the body is simply to let your body do its job. Unless you have a medical problem, your body takes care of itself quite nicely, experts say.
"The liver and kidneys are nature's best-kept secret, because they are the weapons to eliminate toxins from your body," says Gerbstadt. "If you are concerned about certain substances in your diet, it is easier and safer to simply eliminate [those substances] rather than engage in unhealthy detox plans."

According to Chau Che MD, with New York University:
"Despite evidence to the contrary, the idea that colon cleansing is therapeutic by removing impurities, lives on. However, these claims largely fail to consider normal physiology. The digestive tract has inherent properties that work to clean our colon. After food ingestion, the small intestine absorbs nutrients and contracts to move indigestible residue into the colon. The colon continues the digestive process by absorbing and secreting electrolytes and fluids while its resident bacteria ferments the undigested food products. These are just some of the many mechanisms in which the digestive tract works in order to ensure that the colon does not become encrusted with fecal matter as some products claim. The black, rubbery material passed on a colon cleanse is actually a byproduct from the supplements and fiber in the colon cleansing product as opposed to old fecal material, in which consumers are led to believe."

Cleansing isn't really doing anything for you. You body has it's own system in place and you should depend on that and just eat healthy and drink plenty of water.0 -
lol...No I am not eating any meat
but when I do eat meat I eat it medium rare....
It's very unlikely that if you live in a first world country that you are acquiring parasites from eating meat. And if you are, there is no cleanse in the world gonna get rid of them.
So my Dr is lying? thank you for your information, but parasites are actually quite common, and it is not just from eating medium rare meat, it is from the air if you ever lay on the ground to suntan, or eat fruit and veggies without washing them...the reality is that most of what a person consumes now is created in a factory ran by tons of people who cannot be guaranteed are clean all the time, not to mention regardless of how many precautions are made there is not a health inspector watching over every machine in every factory at every moment. Which means that without even including the crap that is packaged is extremely bad for our bodies there is no way to guarantee what is going into our bodies is good...Yes your liver and colon have a job to do, but if you have taxed your liver kidneys and colon because of the crap you have eaten then it cannot possibly take care of everything, thus being overweight and unhealthy....So cleaning your body out with a healthy cleanse or eating only fruits and veggies for a period of time is actually good for the body and the body needs it....If we look at it like a a cut on your body if cleaned and taken care of it will heal itself but if left to the dirt and grime of life it will get infected, logic says cut your organs a break and clean them, take care of them and they will heal your body....
I might also add that colds, flu's, etc,..are parasites and bugs...and they need to be cleaned out....I can imagine that doing a lemon juice with cyan is not a good idea...but cleansing by doing juices, vegetables, and not processed food cannot possibly be not needed...So I guess I am sorry but I do not agree with everyone...I think the body does need breaks from the havoc we put it through daily...and before it is said that obviously we should only eat healthy....look at peoples diaries.....oatmeal (Made at a factory) diet foods, everywhere also chemicals and made at a factory....meats...cut my butchers and a lot of them run through meat factory...the average person cannot afford to go to the farmer, or to the organics so a cleanse even while eating better is still needed to cut our organs a break and give them a chance to clean us out....
just my two cents and I have no doubt many will disagree...
We are subjected to things like bacteria, viruses, and parasites every day. Our immune system takes care of all of that. Unless you have something serious, you shouldn't need to do anything but stay healthy to keep your immune system in fighting condition.
On another note, you said your doctor said everyone has parasites, but did your doctor say you needed to cleanse them or was he/she just stating that as a fact. When doctors say things like that it can be scary, but unless they told you specifically that you needed to do a cleanse to get rid of them, then I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Everyone has a lot of things that could freak you out, but the body is pretty amazing at taking care of itself.
Of course you should always eat as healthy as you can, I know processed foods are hard to omit completely, but it isn't necessary to worry so much over it.
But, if your doctor told you specifically to cleanse, then by all means do it. Or ask for a second opinion and decide from there. It is your health, and you should always be proactive about it.0 -

It amazes me that you just discounted everything I said with meat isn't going to give you a cold...of course it isn't..,..I didn't say it would....and nothing will fix a tapeworm....I haven't said a thing about tapeworms...I am guessing here that either you are a) professional in which please tell me more, or b) someone who thinks they know more than me and anyone else in which case, fine I will let it go....either way, if you are a professional then please show me the error of my ways....because I can admit it is possible...if not show me the proof outside of master cleanse write ups that show that our bodies can handle the garbage they are being fed today without causing issues....
Everyone says but never proves it....it i so easy to say don't waste your time money or health but everything is all put in the same categories and there are many different types of cleanses. I understand the diet and health is billons of dollars a year industry but there has to be some truth somewhere...I constantly see that people believe MFP is the truth which would be great except we are all just people and MFP is here to make money too which is why there are ads everywhere...Not a issue just reality....
I read every read this that was posted here and none of them say that natural cleansing is not needed....it says things like master cleanses can be harmful well no kidding....0 -
ok...at the risk of sounding like an idiot...My Dr. told me that everyone has parasites if they have eaten meat...So I am doing a natural Parasite cleanse....If our bodies are consuming food that is bad for it then does it not make sense that it is too bogged down trying to deal with the processed crap to do it's job?? Isn't a cleanse a way of helping your body to clean itself out? I don't mean a master cleanse I mean a raw cleanse or natural cleanse??
That is ridiculous.
Cleansing is only necessary if you are getting a colonoscopy or if you have a medical condition.0 -

You know what....not worth it....have a great day..0

I vote for misinformed. You do not get parasites from eating meat unless there is something wrong with it. Many of these parasites (like cystercosis from eating pork) are quite harmful and can even be deadly.
But to say that as a matter of course you have parasites if you eat meat? That is total bull****.0 -

I'm no expert but here's my thoughts on the matter.
Yes, as I understand it you can get parasites from eating meat that has not been cooked properly. However, most of those parasites do not take up residence in our bodies. They are temporary residents that pass through alive, or killed by our digestive system. Those that can remain and use our bodies as hosts need a whole lot more than a cleanse to oust them.
The best proof that our bodies can handle the crap we do to it and we don't need to do anything other than stop eating crap and eat a healthy diet, can be found by talking to everyone on this site who has changed their diets to healthier ones and had their health in general get measurably better.
A two day, or a week long, cleanse is not going to do anything for you in the long run. It's going to, at best, give you a brief good feeling that will go away as soon as you go back to your normal eating. This, of course, is where the crackpots who sell cleanses get you. "I felt great when I did the last one, so I'll feel great when i do the next." So you give them more money and so on and so forth. It's all marketing strategy.
Logic, however, shows that eating a healthy diet long term is what is going to give you a healthy body long term.
Is there anything wrong with eating fruits and vegetables only for a few days in the hopes it of it helping your system? Not likely, unless there's something in the fruits and veg that will make you sick, which is possible as well.0 -
