Excited to try MFP. How does it compare to WW Point +?

I have been using WW off and on for a few years and have had good success. My weight is not up about 65 lbs again and I need to shed the pounds. I am actually tired of the entire Points system of tracking (calculating every food item), and want to start using a more standardized calorie counting system. Also tired of the whole fad diet trend, and want to learn better nutrition principles.

I wanted to get some feedback from prior WW users. How do you experiences compare with MFP? Do you find the success rate about the same? Any major differences I should know about?

Thanks in advance, Bryan.

I just started using MFP, so not really any results, but I've cancelled my WW online subscription, simply due to the fact that the database in MFP is a lot better that WW's, especially when it comes to Canadian brands... The rest of the site is almost identical, so I really see no reason to keep on paying for WW
The new points plus is messing with my weight loss anyways, I have to keep tweaking their formula to make it work....

I switched over from WW PP a few months ago. I found two big differences: the impact of exercise is much more pronounced on MFP and you get a much more nuanced idea of your diet. I didn't like WW because it took ~1600 daily calories and turned them into 29 "points". You lose a lot of detail when you do that. I like being able to track the Hershey's kiss I ate as 26 calories, rather than either not counting it or eating more of them so that I can get to one point. Always seemed silly. It's also great to see your exercise calories in comparison to your diet. Whether you choose to eat them back is up to you but I find it a lot easier to understand than PP. Good luck!
  • I like the site much better than the WW site, just a ton more info so a lot less inputting. I like that I don't have to translate everything in to WW lingo before I eat it. Plus, it's free!!!
