Falling under your calorie count – good or bad?

I’ve always heard it’s not good to be under your calorie count because your body will store fat. Is this true? I’m having a hard time eating enough food during the day. I am on the 3 meals a day with 2 snacks in between but again, I’m not eating enough.

I’m only on day 1 of tracking my foods but back before I discovered this site, I tracked in a notebook and also had a hard time consuming enough calories.

What are some small fillers I can eat that don’t consume a bunch of calories/carbs/fat?

Any tips? Or good sites where I can find some ideas?

If your recommended calorie goal is 1200, you don't want to go too far under that or at least not very often. It's actually good to go a little bit over your goal every now and then, too, just to mix things up so your body isn't expecting the exact same amount of calories every day. If your recommended goal is higher than 1200, just try to come within about 100 in either direction, and try switching it up - over some days, under on others.

If you need help getting up to your goal, try snacking on yogurt, peanut butter, fruits and veggies, add cheese to meals, etc. Have a glass of milk - that's 90 calories for skim (8 oz), more if you get milk that isn't skim. Fat free yogurts are around 80-100 cal and yummy. :-)

Don't stress too much over the carbs/fat. The nubmers that the site gives are just ballpark targets - going over them will not hinder your weightloss unless you have specific medical conditions (for example, women with PCOS tend to find that they need to eat low-carb to lose weight, even if they keep their calories in range). If you don't have special concerns, don't worry too much if you can't match up those carbs/fat numbers exactly. Do try to get in *at least* the amount of protein recommended. That is not a limit, it's a goal to shoot for and if you go over it, that's good too.
