Irregular heart beat

I have an irregular heart beat & I'm wondering if that would have an affect on my HRM's reading? It seems when I work out the calories burned seem rather low. I do notice sometimes that my HRM isn't picking up my HR. I asked my P/T & she says when I've done sessions with her & the other lady I train with that my HRM should be showing more calories burned due to my height, weight, age etc.

My HRM isn't top of the range. So that might have something to do with it.

I have checked a website that gives you an approximate calories burned & may just start using that as a guideline rather than using my HRM?

If the HRM keeps showing you dipping down to resting HR for long periods of time, then the calorie estimate may be off for that.

After the workout, does it give you max, avg, min HR values? Easy way to tell if that was the problem. Don't start it until the HR is up, and see if it ever goes really low.

Did your HRM have you input your age, weight, (height doesn't matter), max HR, or anything else?
If not, no it can't be as accurate as those that do, or that website you are using, which may be more correct anyway.

Irregular heartbeat should have no bearing on it's ability to pick it up, they are usually good for 250 discreet beats/min separation, so no problem.

But, if it's having an issue getting the signal to the monitor because of electrical interference in your location, or other monitors nearby, that could cause no data.

But if your watch is giving an avg at end of workout, null values of no reading don't count, so that would not lower the avg anyway. So if you really maintained an avg HR of 120 for 30 min workout, and signal was lost and monitor showed nothing for 5 min of that time, the avg would still be shown as 120. If it reported HR of 20 for 5 min in there total because of misreading instead of no reading, that would affect it a bit because that avg would be 103, and would be reported as such.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I had to input my details when I set it up. I think there is a function for me to have a look at the averages etc but I get so frustrated with the thing that I haven't really sat down & gone through it.

The website I've checked out says a 25min circuit training work out would see me burning 230 calories but my HRM showed only 90 calories burned.

I guess the safest thing for me at the moment is to stick to my calories per day that I am supposed to have & any extra calories is a bonus
