I've lost my drive.. to work out... :(

Options
So I was steaming along, working out 2-4 days a week for the past 2 months.. and then BAMN, I got sick with a cold and stopped.

Well I have been over that for about 2.5 weeks now.. feeling much better.. and I can't find it in me to push myself to go back to working out so much. I know in my mind.. that I felt great doing it, I saw results and it worked out good.. but I just don't have the urge to go.. and I am really, really bumming about it.

I have managed to stay around the same weight, thank god.. but maybe that is the reason I haven't gone. I feel like I am kind of lax about it right now.. glad not to be gaining.. but thinking.. well maybe tomorrow I will go workout.. and then tomorrow never comes.. ARGH!!!! I am so bummed.. any uplifting around ????

:drinker:

Oh yeah, and not to mention 2 weeks from today would be my second goal to hit.. of being 20lbs down.. which I should of hit early.. but now I am thinking I may not hit it at all

get up off ur chair, turn on some music and start dancing, while doing the housework, you will be surprised how many cals you can burn

then a little later go for a walk, you CAN do it, you have had a little break, and now its time to get down to it again! :drinker:

GET MOVING! YOU CAN DO IT!

YOU HAVE TO JUST GO!!! It sucks to get there but once you are done you FEEL GREAT and you are happy you did it. Just that initial motivation to get yourself there is hard.....I know, I have been there (that's how I got up to 180 lbs):noway:

Go for a nice long walk (with some hills involved).....that might get you started. Good LUCK and remember it's all up to you!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!:drinker:

I know exactly how you feel - I haven't been able to motivate myself for the past week. I tried working out today and only got thru 15 minutes of cardio before I quit.

I'm soooo frustrated - I was really doing good with working out 5 days a week for 1 - 1/2 hours per day and now NOTHING:grumble: :grumble:

I need to get out of this funk.....

It is very hard when you get out of a rhythm of going to the gym. But those days that you don't feel like going are the most important days to go. I'm not really sure how to get out of it except make it a priority to go...Tell youself that you have to go...Make a countdown to the days left to make you goal of 20 lbs...Treat yourself to a reward ( A new shirt or new earrings) for going and making your goal.

don't give up I know you can do it.
I know sometimes I feel the same way what i did was plan each day at the gym and time i would be going and what i was going to accomplish when i was there.

Oh my gosh I totally know how you feel!! I'm still recovering from my cold and have been putting off getting back into my exercise routine! Let's make a pact that we'll get off our respective couches today and do our work out. It only takes one good sweat to get you back in the groove. Deal?

You may be maintaining right now...but it will creep up on you.

The holidays derailed me from my workout routine...next thing ya know...I have gained 7 pounds back and am further away from my goal.

Get yourself back in that routine and it will be all good from there! :drinker:

It comes as a surprise doesn't it? When you're "in the zone" for exercise it just feels like you're going to do this for the rest of your life and not look back. Then life throws a speed bump in your path and it's shocking to find out how quickly you can plant your couch potato fanny back on the sofa. I think this is a theme that happens to even the most prolific athlete. The key is to find a method to get yourself back on track. Here are a couple of suggestions.

    1. Your head isn't in a good place, stop thinking and start doing.

    2. You need a workout buddy. Some accountability makes this more fun and happen more often.
Call someone you know and invite them on a hike, bike ride, aerobics class, to meet at the gym...

    3. Just aim all stubbornness toward this. Fake it until you make it. Set a goal, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, no matter what, no matter how I feel. You'll soon be back to your old self.

Good luck. You're going to do this, you know it, I know it. Just do it.

I do this once in a while and I found that the reason my weight stays the same is because my muscle is going kaput and my fat is catching back up.

Try to force yourself to work-out, cut the time in half, promise yourself some sort of indulgence afterwards...it's always easier for me once I get started!

I have trouble exercising also. Maybe your routine is too routine. Mix it up, do something different. If you go to a gym to exercise, take a day off and go for a walk, skating, what ever interest you. Don't forget to drink water.:drinker:

Remember we are all in the same boat and on your side. :flowerforyou:

One day, I hear someone telling me they read something about going to the gym in a magazine. Seems that nearly 80% doesn't like to go to the gym!!! I gotta say that when I wake up and I know I have to go to the gym, I feel like i just want to sleep in and relax... However, when how I look, I know I HAVE TO GO!!! I just can't skip even thought I don't see a big difference with all the efforts I put in  ! But when i'm there, i actually like it. I just have to stay motivated by being focus on what I how I want to look like in bikini or in a new sexy dress for the summer!

I found that setting different goals for a specific reason really helped me out to stay very motivated! Exemple: I want to look better when i'll go down south. Also, I made a bet with my dad which is I have to go to my cousin's wedding and if i reached my goal by then, he'll pay half of my dress to attend the marriage!

Don't let yourself go into the lazyness ;)

I can relate. I am recovering from Pneumonia and did NOT want to work out once I was able to (and I'm a 7 day a weeker). How did I get past it? I worked out.

My desire came back after the first trip to the gym....even though the first trip was positively grueling.

Just go...you'll feel better after. The price for not going is way too high.

Just do it. Seriously. If you don't, you're going to feel even worse in just another couple of weeks.

I lost 20 pounds last year and basically dropped all my workouts from October-end of February. . .what do you know, all 20 pounds PLUS another 3 crept back on. When I was working out, I could eat more and maintain. . . . but after I stopped working out, I ate the same amount and GAINED.

The longer you wait, the harder it'll be and the worse it'll hurt. Avoid the pain, avoid the gain--just do it. Or you'll be crying when you do pushups and your toddler will be kissing the top of your head (LOL, that's what happened to me last week!).

If nothing else, make sure you adjust your calorie needs (lower) to help compensate for not working out. That should help somewhat.

I am having a similar problem. I just started MFP and calorie counting last week, but until about a month ago was working out at least 4 days a week. But I wasn't losing weight. Of course now I see it was because of the calories I waseating. But now that I have cut back on calories, I don't have the energy to work out!! :grumble:

Only thing about losing your drive to workout thats killing me is I can get off my *kitten* and go but I feel like quitting shortly after I start. Its like my hearts not into it anymore! I think I just dont wanna do it !! Gotta find a way to care again. Cuz if my hearts not in it you can forget it. Working out is a very hard thing to do(at least when I am doing it) lifting wts every other day and running on days off. You gotta want that pain to be able to do it. Guess I need to just find some motivation some how.

Find something you LOOK FORWARD to doing.
Then it won't seem like a pain to get up and go...I can hardly wait to get to my dance studio...to go to my pole upstairs...learn something new, master a new trick!
Find your joy in exercise...it gives you natural endorphins which make you feel good-but if you're forcing yourself to do something you hate, then it makes it all the more difficult to get motivated.
What do you enjoy? Hiking? Swimming? Go get it!

Could it be some boredom has kicked in with what you were doing? I get in these phases too and it turns out that when I just make myself do it and I try something new or different that I am more apt to stick with it. Try a good difficult hiking trail and go for a walk outside, or try a dance video - or just something very different, or in a different location, from what you would normally do. Once your energy levels pick back up, the motivation usually follows in my case.
