Looking for a good lower body workout that does NOT include

lunges or squats. My ortho says I should avoid both, but especially lunges as they tear up the knees quickly. So, I'm looking for a good workout dvd that emphasizes the lower body but avoids lunges and minimizes squats. Any advice?
To note: My ortho says this to me - it may not apply to others. I've had 5 knee surgeries and have little to no cartilage left in my knee(s). I do have arthritis and lunges only makes the pain worse and wears out the remaining cartilage quicker than I'd like.
Oh, my ortho also says no jumping (plyo), as this put 8x my body weight on my knees.

See a sports physician. We'll give you bad advice.0

Would you give me different advice? My previous ortho (in a different state) felt the same about lunges, but he wasn't as harsh on squats.0

If you are doing lunges and squats correctly then you shouldn't have a whole lot of pressure on your knees. But i would agree with Koosdel go see a physician0

I guess I wasn't specific enough. My ortho means Orthopedic Doctor (surgeon). He did 2 of my knee surgeries. My previous Ortho did 2 surgeries, one of which was a cartilage transplant which didn't take.0

as someone else said, lunges & squats done correctly do not put pressure on your knees..... there are trainers with specific training/knowledge of your issue and could give you good advice0

I just did a lower body workout from a pilates video called 10 minute solution, sculpting pilates. It focussed on floor exercises for legs so it might be what you are looking for.0

This is absolutely wrong. Any weight bearing exercise puts additional pressure on your joints (That is why heavy lifters wrap their knees when doing squats), and if you have a cartilage problem there is the issue of repetitive motion wear. If you have cartilage issues, try running in the pool, it is way harder than you would think and a great lowerbody (and core) workout. Listen to your doctor for now and I agree with a previous poster, see if you can find (and get into) a sports medicine clinic.0
