Does anyone do a calorie range??

Last time I used MFP I had my calories set at 1200/day + exercise calories. I tried to be exact as possible and often went to bed so hungry that I had to take a sleeping aide to go to sleep. Other times I would go over my calories because I would wake up hungry and still half-asleep I would get something to eat not making note of quantity or calories (because I was half asleep). Then I would beat myself up over it.
This time I am trying something different. I am counting all my calories, but I am not strict about an exact number I have to stay at. My goal is to stay somewhere between 1000-1400 depending on what I feel my body needs that day. I've been doing this for two weeks now and it has seemed to be working. The way I see it is that my body doesn't burn the exact same amount of calories each day, and so why should I eat the exact same number each day? I am still eating less calories than I burn, my body doesn't adjust to a set amount of calories, and I don't beat myself up if eat 1300 calories one day.
Does anyone else not set a strict number of calories to abide by? Any thoughts on this? I would like to hear if this has or has not worked for anyone.

Well i am not so strict with my calories i just cant do it cause i am a stay at home mom and am always in the kitchen lol I range from 1200-1500 a day. I have lost 4lbs in the month of Feb so its coming off very slowly maybe if i was stricter with myself i would lose more. I dont know if that helps or not lol0

Yup
I am set at 1200 because I am sedentary and I have it set to loose 1.5 lbs a week ( which is the highest it will go for me) Howerver 1200 is too low most days so I range from 1200-1400 depending on my appitite.
I look at what I burn just living. On the site if you go under goals its there. Mine is around 1800..so I can still lose weight at 1400 just not as fast as at 1200. I want to have something I can live with and not feel hunrgy and grumpy so I would rather lose slower and be happy then lose fast and be grumpy. I want something that is similar to what I will live with once i lose the weight completly , that way I wont put it back on and I do not feel like I am "dieting" I have just cut back on my cals.

I am the same. I am set between 1200 and 1400 depending on my needs. Not cravings. If I feel as though I am hungry I eat something. I just make sure it is a healthy choice and low in calories.

coliechacer one lb a week is great. Thats what I am aiming for now.
I think I lost a lot of weight up front because I was over 30 bmi when I started and I also had only put on the last 20-30lbs in the last 3 months so I didnt have it long. I figure that as I lose weight it will come off slower and I aim for 4 lbs a month too.0 -
 :flowerforyou: I try to keep within a range. If I have a meal that doesn't last me well until the next one I take a look at it and see if I can plan better next time. When I have a meal midday or in the evening with 5 oz of lean protein (like chicken or fish), two or three servings of a fresh or frozen vegetable and a salad with spray dressing, the meal is 400-500 calories and keeps me satisfied a lot longer than other things. I think it's a process of finding what works. I also have a planned healthy snack (usually high fiber cereal and soy milk) at 8:30 PM after dinner at 5 PM. The snack holds me until I go to sleep
Take it one day at a time and pay attention to each day's eating, exercise, and stress and you'll find your way. Good luck.:drinker:0 -

I am very strict 1200-1400 and I watch my carbs,sodium and fat closely0 -
I allow for an extra 100 calories if I'm feeling hungry.
I also don't beat myself up if I exceed by much more.
As long as I don't eat more than 1900-2000 calories a day consistantly, I shouldn't gain... I should maintain.0
