Juice Alternatives?

I'm a juice lover but I'm looking to ween myself off the fruit juices. Most of them of so high in sugar and calories even the 100% juices. I tried the Tropicana Trop50 Orange juice today and it wasn't that great. I noticed that I got that weird after taste that you get from artificial sweeteners even though it says "No Artificial Sweeteners". After reading a little closer it is sweetened with Reb A, derived from stevia.

I know that moderation is key but has anyone else found something that works for them?

You could mix them with 1/2 water after a while you will get use to it. Or try water with lemon.

Unfortunately, it's just not healthy to get sugar from drinks. And even worse, the diet drinks that we thought were fine turned out not to be okay afterall. So, your ultimate goal should be to focus on drinking water. Slowly ween yourself toward all water. If you need something else to drink, you might try tea (not the "teas" like arizone iced tea or nestea that have tons of sugar, but real tea) or coffee. Of course the caffeine can be an issue there. But it's definitely better than getting hundreds of calories per day from sugary drinks.

I keep a pitcher of water in the fridge with slices of fruit (usually lemon) in it. :) Oranges work well too!

I got an inexpensive juicer at GNC for Christmas and make my own in the morning. Usually a mix of apples and carrots, which have a lot of sugar. Granny Smith apples have the lowest sugar. I've also started adding veggies to it. Celery, broccoli (which doesn't give much juice) and kale (which also doesn't give much juice). Peppers are great for juicing.
  • Cut up any type of fresh fruit you like and add them to ice water.

Don't drink your calories... I suggest seltzer water. It's my go-to now that I'm quitting diet drinks. I've just about made the transition. I also drink coffee (no sugar, little bit of half & half) and green tea. Teavana.com has lots of teas and I'm getting interested in them...

Exactly! I'm really trying to avoid drinking my calories. I do love tea...Teavana is the BEST!! They have a store near my job that I used to visit regularly. I need to make that a habit again.

Thanks for all of the advice....there's some really good ideas here that I'm going to try. I've got about a half a container of juice left and thats it!
