For Those Days that you Fall off the Wagon

Hello everyone,

I just heard something great from Jillian Michaels that will make me think twice when I am about to give up for the day.

"Compare eating something bad, like fried food or a few pieces of pizza to getting a flat tire. Will you make the rest of the day (week, month?) a "fell off the wagon" period? Are you going to just give up and go slash the rest of your tires, or are you going to fix the flat and drive on?!?!?"

You know what? I really needed that right now. Thank you for posting!!!! :flowerforyou:

Today is a day when I feel like just giving up...the scale isn't budging anymore...at least NOT the way I want it to...the weather is icky...I just feel like going home and pigging out! I haven't had a drink in 3 1/2 weeks...and I'm really wanting a glass of red wine with some cheese and crackers...SOOOO BAD!!!!!!!!!! I kinda don't trust myself to go home and do the right thing, so I thought I'd log on here before I left to see if I can change my mind set....so your post is a "sign." I'm going to go home and exercise first thing, before I get distracted by everything else...then I'll go from there.

Here's to trying to make good choices, especially when you do NOT want to! :drinker:

    Thanks again!!!!!!!!

PS: I'm a teacher, it's Conference Week, and I'm getting laid off this Saturday...need I say more?

Thank you!!! I fell off the wagon on Friday night and have not been back on. I've been feeling a little under the weather, feel depressed because I haven't been working out, I've been eating everything and anything that I can that is bad for me, and I'm getting so UNMOTIVATED! I've been doing so well! I think this bad for me food is actually making me depressed! I just need to get back on the treadmill and on track with food. I'm also stressed financially...maybe that's getting to me, too... Okay...just need to stop the woe-is-me...

I think falling off the wagon is ok...sometimes. Very rarely, because it reminds you how you never want to fall off again! You will hang on for dear life and be dragged behind, bouncing along, but you won't let go. Why? Because it becomes an endless cycle, like Kristie mentioned. You feel depressed and so you eat. And then you eat because you're depressed. And then weeks go by and you realize you haven't moved from point A to point B at all over that time.

Bad food, while there is probably not a physical reason for affecting your mental state, does get you because you KNOW it's bad and you KNOW it's not helping, so you get down on yourself. Don't let it get to you! It's a sunk cost (you'll never get those calories back) but you'll remember how you felt when you did it last time, and that will remind you not to let it happen.

Glad I could help a little...it's dreary and cold here also and nothing would be better than curling up and reading a good book. But I'm bringing IT tonight with intense cardio!

    Mickie,

I'm in layoff city right now. Big Yellow laid off 22K people over the past few months, and my city is definitely feeling it. I guess we can look at it positively (despite the obvious financial strains) and see that you now have EVEN MORE TIME to dedicate to yourself. And we all know it's needed sometimes. I'm sure you'll be back to work soon.

I'm just freaking out right now...and to be honest..I came home worked out..and then for the REAL first time in 3 1/2 week, I caved BIG time to 2.5 glasse of red wine, cheese & crackers and several squares of chocolate. I feel weird...like better and worse at the same time. But, then again I'm a little overcome with emotions right now.

I wish you good luck with your company...without more jobs being created, we are all in a downward spiral...hopefully soon we will be able to turn ithis economy around in the "right' direction.

Pretty simple yet powerful way to think of it...thanks Michelle:drinker:

Reading it again now I find it really incredibly moving to realize that's how we live our lives sometimes. Makes me want to most definitly NOT slash my tires on my journey....
