Anybody taking DHEA as a supplement to try to get the effects of "steroids" with any success?

DHEA is a precursor for male and female hormones and suppose to increase androgens it stands for dehydroepiandrosterone
  • Hmm...sounds interesting. I'll have to look it up.

DHEA is also a precursor for estrogen. As a matter of fact, one of side effects for men who are taking too much DHEA is "man-boobs." For women, those side effects can be excess hair growth and aggression. Acne is a side effect for both sexes.

Used correctly (less than 25 mg per day), DHEA can stimulate weight loss by balancing cortisol levels. One of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue is the overproduction of cortisol--evidenced by a number of symptoms which include weight gain in the abdominal area (hard to lose) insomnia--difficulty falling or staying asleep, depression, food cravings, particularly sugar and carbs, insulin resistance, brain fog, mood swings, high anxiety, irritability, frequent colds and infections, premature skin aging---just to name a few.

I suffer from adrenal fatigue. One of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue is high cortisol production. This morning, I'm starting 10 mg of DHEA per day (taken with a meal containing healthy fats) before I go work out.

DHEA should be taken early in the day. Taking it late can affect your ability to sleep, while taking it early can help you sleep better at night.

There is a glut of information on the internet regarding the use of DHEA to treat high cortisol levels. One of the best "side-effects" of normalizing your cortisol levels is losing weight, but many people say that DHEA in low doses (no more than 25 mg per day) gives them the kind of energy they had in their 20s. THAT'S what I'm hoping for along with the lessening of adrenal fatigue symptoms.
