Oh fabulous. Now It looks like if I don't vote for the bench, I'll be spending my Spring building a dining room table?

C'mon :) Do it for me? Cause you love me? Cause we're from the same hometown? Cause I have big hysterical boobs? Anything working for ya here??

Are you taking orders? I LOVE the second table (without the bench) and I'm moving into my new house...

A bench doesn't have to be backless...I just took this picture about 10 minutes ago of our dining table.

We have an 8ft table with a 6ft bench on one side. Love it! It looks good, works great to seat 3 people, and is handy because we slide it in under the table so there is more floor space and walk room around the table. Its made of pine and has a rustic primitive look.

    That's where I sleep when I crash a Q's place.

She wraps the cushion in SaranWrap first, in case I have any accidents.

I have a table just like that...counter height with 4 chairs and one bench and we love it. The dining room is longer than wide and being able to slide the bench under the table makes the room look bigger.

We've also got a bench on one side. The asymmetry only bothered me in the beginning. I quite love it now. Here's what our set-up looks like (without the trash and sh*te all over it that would come with a real pic):

I just like it. Gives the impression of levels, visually. As long as the bench is not attached to the table.

That is gorgeous, where did you get it? I'm shopping for a table to sit 9/10 people.

Ditto! Love it! I need to come visit - especially if you prep things w/ saran wrap.

are you going to push it up against the wall most of the time?

this is the reason we have one. eat in kitchen and the dining area is a walk through to the door. when the family isn't over, we don't need that seating. so we slide the table to the wall and the bench is under, saving us a lot of space and still allowing a large table when everyone is over.

It came in black. But white goes better with our decor. And when my husband's family comes over, it's 14 people. I needed a table big enough. It seats 10 comfortably with the leaves out. Then we put the kids at the kitchen table. However, this year, the 18 year old decided she was no longer going to sit at the kid table. We squeezed in 11 people around the big table.

I've got the saran wrap ready when you are!

I grew up with a big dining table with inserts - benches on both sides and chairs at the ends. I loved it. In fact, I've already requested it be handed down to me. It's been refinished and it's beautiful. Haven't see one like it anywhere. When I was younger living at home years and years ago I used one of the benches as a weight bench. That's why no back was great! I'll be happy to ditch my current one with chairs to get that one back.

Personally I dont like them they are NOT comfortable and I don't want my meal disturbed by an aching back and pins and needles in my butt.

I'm in need and web surfing... I'm curious, what are your opinions on the dining room table with a bench on one side?

I think it's great. That way when done, you can just take a nap right there.

We've discussed getting one due to the arrangement in our kitchen. It would open up more room since it's an L shape and right now we have the table shoved against the one side until we need to use all 6 chairs. I say if you don't like it/need it get a normal table and chair set. You could always get a bench later on if you decide you need it!

FYI, my custom ads are displaying some super cute corner nook tables. Might have to reconsider my breakfast nook setup

We have a bench on one side - we love it for the kids, and when their friends come there's a little extra space. And a bench is easier to clean up after children than chairs. But when the kids are grown and gone, I'm going with all chairs. Will probably keep the bench somewhere handy for eventual grandkids.
