My Journey

When I started my latest weight-loss journey in August, 2010, I needed to lose 85 pounds. I joined Curves and lost 25 pounds and then gained ten back during the 2010 holiday season. After several months of making no progress (and not really trying any harder), my blood pressure shot through the roof and I had to go on a second BP medicine. For the past three years my A1C level (blood sugar level) had been slowly climbing and now it is rising more aggressively. Both of those issues made me determined to lose the weight and get healthy. My husband and I joined the YMCA in August 2011. He joined to shed about 30 or 40 pounds, but mainly to encourage me since I have twice as much weight to lose and we both know I couldn't/wouldn't start this journey again alone). I am working out three times a week and under a doctor-supervised high protien/low carb diet. We've also discovered that I have a slow metobilism (which makes losing weight a bigger challenge). I'm determined to get healthy. I'm not interested in looking like a model. I'm not interested in turning heads when I walk into a room. I'm interested in living a long, healthy life with my husband, being around for my daughters for many years (I lost my Mom when I was 30) and watching my grandchildren growing up. I don't want the last years of my life spent being sick, having strokes, heart attacks, or dealing with issues from diabetes. I want the end of my life to be full of happy memories made with my family. When I started this journey in 2010, I weighted 243 (a lot for a 5'2" frame). I am currently down to 216. My goal is a range of 150 - 170 simply because I'm in my mid-50s and want to be realistic. Maybe once I'm closer to the 160-170 range, I will feel confident enough to go further - time will tell.

Sounds like you have a good sound reason for loosing. I love to hear stories like yours. Mine is similiar in not wanting to turn heads, etc. I just want to be fit, healthy, and happy with myself. Good Luck!
