Crazy GYM observations

So, I like to people watch. It's just what I do. This last week I have seen some pretty incredible things at my gym and I wondered if anyone else has similar experiences. First a little bitty skinny lady RUNNING on the elliptical machine. (Is that weird or just me?). Not ONE but TWO guys on machines right next to me continually scratching their (errr) below the belt area. Another guy and I swear this is true had a trash bag under his shirt. Several guys at the gym watch more tv than exercise but I chalk that up to the tvs being on sports center (ESPN) and they get mesmerized and can't look away.
Would love to hear from anyone else that has gym observations!

I saw a young lady come out of the womens locker room and go to the water cooler to fill her bottle...in her sports bra and thong underwear. I guess she realized that she had forgotten her shorts, so she bolted back into the locker room. When she came back out, she was dresed in street clothes, and left the gym. i have not seen her in there again....0

Seeing personal trainers putting clients though silly stuff amuses me the most.
Sitting on a ball does not make shoulder presses better.0 -

I thought the reasoning for doing exercises on a Swiss ball is that it helps strengthen your core since you have to exert your muscles to stay upright.... or at the very least improves your balance.
From http://ptjournal.apta.org/content/80/6/564.full :Performing curl-up exercises on labile surfaces increased abdominal muscle activity (eg, for curl-up on a stable surface, rectus abdominis muscle activity was 21% of MVC and external oblique muscle activity was 5% of MVC [maximal voluntary contraction]; for curl-up with the upper torso on a labile ball, rectus abdominis muscle activity was 35% of MVC and external oblique muscle activity was 10% of MVC). Furthermore, it appears that increases in external oblique muscle activity were larger than those of other abdominal muscles. Performing curl-ups on labile surfaces changes both the level of muscle activity and the way that the muscles coactivate to stabilize the spine and the whole body.0 -
I once saw these 3 guys standing next to each other doing dumbbell curls with such horrible form it looked like they were humping the dumbbell rack..0

It might help with core stability, but there it also means you can't shoulder press as much, and there are far better ways to work core stability than performing exercises while sitting or standing on a ball. So by trying attempting to work shoulders and core muscles at the same time, you end up not working either one as effectively as you could.
The same clowns that advocate this stuff are some of the same ones that don't advocate heavy barbell back squats. Go figure.0 -
Our gym is on the second floor and I have seen people take the elevator up and then do cardio machines.0

Not crazy but I question the logic. I see people dedicate entire workouts to abs and core. While important, to me it's a waste of time. I do compound movements that involve the core to stabilize the body in order to do the lift right. Much better way than using a bunch of isolation machines then doing some type of "core" workout.0

So true. Most people have this "wtf" look on their faces when I do deads or powercleans to an overhead press. Plus I trible set my lifts (main+two non related muscle groups) so I do 9 sets in the time most do 30 -

LOL, It didn't happen at the the Gym, but I did watch a young lady walk out of the water at a busy beach one time .. just like they do in the movies .. with her arms up and squeezing her hair with with her head tilted back. She seems like she was feeling quite sexy .. until she noticed her bathing suit top was around her waist. Then it was .. like .... GAK! Did anyone see that??? and bolt for her towel. She left the beach shortly thereafter without making eye contact with anyone. AWKWARD!0 -
double post .. WHY does this keep happening??0
