Torn ligament-not the best way to start...

I have just started on my weight loss journey, with eating healthier and an exercise plan. My big problem? In December, I partially tore a ligament in my ankle.
I've been starting to take my dog on brisk walks in the evening, but I'm afraid to do any more than that, as I have a chronically bad ankle and want to let it heal properly this time.
What can I do to keep motivated while injured and push myself enough to see *some* results, but not too hard that my ankle won't heal?? Help please!!
