I'm 40 with between 40-50lbs to lose !!!

I started this yesterday and figured I'd post to see how most people are doing this. I'm athletic and played sports my entire life. However, while beefing up early on in life, no one prepared me for what would happen in the real world after sitting at a desk all day for 10+ years.
I've completed some of the other workout programs that are out there that are "difficult", but feel my calorie intake was too high and the programs were geared to the young person trying to bulk up. I'm not needing that, I just need to lose the tire around my waist and rest will fall into place....
- As of yesterday, I'm strict on my diet and running for about 30 minutes everyday. Once I become a little more aclimated to the running, I plan on doing more cardiovascular.
