I've been having some medical issues which have turned out to be an Ovarian Cyst that's 3cm big on my left ovary. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, & I've been having pain from it for the first time this month that ended me in the Emerg. at the hospital on Christmas Morning :ohwell: It's inoperable because it shrinks with my cycle to be too small for them to be comfortable removing, BUT too big to detatch & go away on its own now. So I'm stuck with this thing till it grows enough to be a surgical case.

I haven't been to the gym in over a month now. I used to run for 25 straight minutes, then do some weights, then maybe some stationary bike or Elliptical, depending on my mood & if I remembered to bring my book. But it's been so long, I *know* I've lost my ability to run 25 straight minutes, & will have to start back on one of the shorter run intervals in Couch to 5K. :embarassed:
But... I'm worried I'm going to hurt myself, even though my Family Doctor told me I'd be fine, & I can run, work out, snowboard, have sex, do whatever I want to, whenever I want to... just stop if I have pain. And then proceeded to give me some WICKED pain killers. They're NARCOTIC. First time I ever had to show Photo ID & sign a form to pick up a prescription here in Canada, let me tell you. :frown:

Coax me into going to the gym please! I want to lose the 3lbs I gained in the month I've been away from the gym!

The hardest part is getting to the gym. Go and do something light the first couple times, instead of running maybe walking on the treadmill to see how you feel. If the dr says it is fine it is fine. If you don't believe them get a second opinion.
  • I know it is very hard. I was away from the gym for six months from a torn tendon in my ankle. I am on restrictions still to only do low impact. I take it one day at a time. I am finally back to spinning for an hour. It took a month. I know you can do it.

They say that if you have really bad cramps, working out can help alleviate some of the pain. Maybe it's the same in your case. As long as your doctor said it was fine, I would go...but start slowly. Don't push yourself to do what you could do before. Take it easy. Walk, jog, bike, whatever you feel comfortable with. Hopefully you will gain some strength and stamina and maybe help a bit of the pain while you're at it.

Avoid ab exercises, but you can continue doing cardio and some weight lifting. When I had my cyst (weighing 10lbs when it was removed this past summer...ouch!) I found I could still do light cardio and some weight training (until it got too big! Then I had to stop...which is why I gained all my weight back...which is why I am here!).

I had surgery in August to remove my appendix. At the same time they took a 4cm cyst from my right ovary. Last week I was back in the ER for a ruptured cyst on my left ovary. It was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt.

Today I was back in the gym for the first time since my surgery. I was scared. And it sucked. I was a spaz and felt totally out of shape (I ran a 5k and 10k last year, prior to surgery) because I could barely do half an hour of cardio.

BUT, it can't get worse. The first step is always the hardest and scariest. If your doctor gave you the okay, I think you should just take the plunge and do it. Even if it's just for a few minutes.

    You can do it!
