I hate it when I am actually starting to feel good about my weight loss and fitness and boom I see a photo (recent) of myself that I look like a moose in. For example...I went out and bought a new dress for my hubbie's company Christmas party. I was feeling good about myself and then the pictures come back. OMG, I look like a cow! Talk about a bummer. Totally busted my bubble. Now I am feeling all yucky even though I have lost 40 pounds and in the best fitness shape of my life. It makes me ill and depressed.

I know it's hard to look at yourself objectively, but chances are you look really great, and you are just being too critical of yourself. Maybe you should compare it to pictures from when you still had those 40 lbs to get your mind right!

I think most of us see ourselves in a much more critical way than others do, you most likely look great and you know you have lost so feel good about that.

I know. I know. I keep telling myself that. I think I will just burn these recent Christmas pics and pretend I never saw them!!

This reminds me of when I was going 2x a week to a great kickboxing class. I was feeling goooood about myself, noticing my legs were more toned, etc. Then at one class I decided to move near the front where I could see myself in the mirror. Oh, big mistake!! I was devastated to see what I actually looked like flopping around, chubby legs and all.

Please don't let the photo get you down - you probably looked really good in person, just as I don't look that bad when not standing under florescent lighting!
  • everything is relative--we can't all be Halle Berry, but trust me--you look good.
  • You have already lost 40lbs.!!! Celebrate. That is amazing. Focus on the positive. Forget that nasty picture.

    Hi there,

I am a scrapbooker and most of my albums just have my boys in them.

I get rid of pictures I don't like of myself. I only keep ones I like.

I do have to say, I hated any pictures of myself when I was a teenager and of course when I look back I realize those pictures looked good.

I think all pictures have some sort of timer on them and they look good after a year or two.

Who knows why this is. I have never met someone who liked pictures of themselves. I think it is just natural.

    Happy Monday,

    Connie Lynn

I have that problem, Do not forget it is SO not a myth that the camera adds pounds to you.
Also the people that are telling you not to be to critical of yourself are right though it is not easy to do.
You are on the right track, and you are getting there but this is a reminder. ONE YOU HATE BUT A REMINDER NON THE LESS of where you are needing/wanting to be.

:flowerforyou: I am SOOOO with you on this one honey!! I've lost 45 lbs and I can see a big difference in my clothes, and me all around- but get a photo or video of me and I not only add those 45 lbs, but another 50!! i still look horrible in photos.

But its ok. One of these days we're going to love the camera and what it shows, right?

It is just your image (and I am not here to debate that). When I lost a whole bunch of weight a long time ago I was still wearing my size 12 pants and everything else. Then one day I went shopping and everything was a size 6. WOW...lol

But i still looked in the mirror and saw my bigger self. Which is probably why I have gained 60+lbs back. I just couldn't see how could I looked and now I am paying for that.
  • This holiday pics are the worst.
But think of how much you have lost and realize that next years picture is gonna be even better.
    Hang in there.

So glad that I am not the only one who has this problem. It just gets me down. On the bright side, I feel better now than I have in long time thanks to all the exercising I do. So I guess I will just pat myself on the back and get over it. I don't ever have to look at that picture again!

Thanks all of you for your words of wisdom!

I have NEVER had a picture taken of myself that I like. not ever, and my hubby is just the opposite, why is that? he can have scruffy hair and crappy clothes and looks great and I get all jazzed up and look like 5 pounds of sausage stuffed into a 2 pound bag. I just overcame it by being the one behind the camera. now I get to be in charge of the pictures and don't have to look at myself in any of them. one picture I did keep though was a pair of my size 24 shorts, laying under a pair of my size 14 shorts. so you could see the difference dramatically. I might still look like crap in them, but dang, look how much weight I lost. laugh. sad to say, I am back into the 24, but getting better. this time around I have help. thanks to you all.
  • Has anyone else noticed that digital cameras tend to be more offensive than the older 35mm cameras?

I think theres a difference there, its like it makes you rounder or something....i think it might be that because of the viewing screen on a digital people hold them pointing UP rather than angled DOWN and UP is NEVER a good look
  • I can understand that. I hate my picture being taken!
They say the camera adds 10 pounds... seems when my picture is taken there are like 200 cameras on me... sigh

How recent is that picture of you? You dont look like a cow... Really. You are pretty. :)
Take a picture now, with you in the best shape... like you said.. compare that to the christmas one..
I bet that makes you feel better
Hang in there, and good luck!
