Best way to start lifting?

My boyfriend has expressed his goal to start lifting this year. He is also looking to lose weight.
I've lost 45 pounds total since last March doing strictly cardio and limited weight training. I figure if he's going to start lifting, then I could join him. We'll be motivation for eachother.

You should get the New Rules of Lifting for Women (it's a book with a specific workout plan). I started it this week and it kicked my butt! There is also New Rules of Lifting, which is for men. The workouts are probably quite different from each other, but you could still work out at the same time.0

Get something heavy and pick it up. Then put it down. Then pick it up again. Then put it down. Then pick it up again.0

I've seen a lot of people talk about the book The New Rules of Lifting. There is one for men and women. Also check out the bodybuilding group. There are a lot of people there who know what they are talking about from years of training and experience. Glad to see you are not shying away from lifiting. I love it and I think all women should lift!!0

Keep it simple at first. Possibly try lifting reams of paper or babies.0

buy yourself a dumbell tree. they have 3 different weights on them, start off with the lighest and work your way up to the heaviest. then go to your gym and start lifting up the heavier ones0

Find a routine that works for you. Google is always good or you can read some weight lifting books. Get a little knowledge before you go throwing weights around. If you don't understand something or how the form should be youtube it. I would suggest writing down your routine and if need be put pictures next to the exercise you choose to do. Write down the weight you used and reps done. Since you're starting out keep your reps between 10-12 reps. Once your form is better and you get more comfortable lifting heavy things a 6-8 rep routine should give you both good results.0

If you've seen how the guy is now you'd agree. Back in the 70's people probably called the beast or rocket or something along those lines.0
