baking with pumpkin

I hope someone can help me. I tried baking brownies with pumpkin puree and they turned out really rubbery tasting. Can anyone give me any suggestions about what to do? I love the idea of decreasing calories and making a cake/brownies healthier...but these were HORRIBLE and a waste of money too.

    Try part pumpkin, part butter (or oil if your recipe calls for that), and see if you can find a happy medium between lower calorie and worth eating.
