Last night I watched The Biggest Loser - USA. It was my first time to watch this programme, but it's January and we all need a bit of motivation. I was actually shocked by the naked exploitation of the people who were desperate to lose weight. The were publicly weighed, wearing very little to expose the flab and then made compete against one another to the point where some collapsed.
Those less able to compete are then excluded and the slightly fitter ones get to take part in the programme.
Why is this nasty, cynical programme so popular? Maybe I'm missing something.

If you type in "Biggest Loser unsafe" or other key words into google you will find tons of info out there.
I don't find the show motivating at all because they make it their full time job to lose weight quickly which is not realistic or effective in the long term. It also causes negative effects of fast weight loss like loose skin and difficulty continuing the lifestyle after the show ends.0
