My wedding is June 23, 2012. That means less than six months. I'm nowhere near what I'd originally wanted to lose. Not to mention that I just bought my wedding dress, which fit perfectly in the store (amazing!). I cannot lose more than 20 pounds and probably 2-4 inches. I can't seem to get the motivation to even do that. It's winter.... that's part of it I'm sure. I don't even take the dog out for a walk (we have a big back yard). I have a treadmill and a stationary bike, yet no exercise. I'll find anything else to do, even cleaning the house one night during the week. What's the freakin' deal??? Why won't I?? Because it's nothing to do with I can't. I have taken a positive attitude with everything else in my life, and great things have happened the past few weeks. Why not this aspect of my life?? What's wrong with me??

FYI, that 24 pounds lost is no longer accurate. I'm not at all interested to see I've gained over half back.

I'ma tell you a secret. There's no motivational fairy dust. You have to build motivation. I tell people all the time that I have kicked, screamed, and cried through workouts before because I had a case of Idunwannas and I made myself do it anyway. And then I always feel better afterward. In the same regard, I've had moments where it seemed like the most difficult thing in the world to say no to certain foods on a given day, to stay within my ranges. I've even gone to bed thinking I was SOOOO hungry (it was all mental). There's nothing to it but to do it. The more you do it, the more confident you feel in your ability to do it. But no one can do it for you and there's no magic fairy dust that can be sprinkled on you to suddenly make you excited to change your life. Gotta be your choice. Easiest way is one tiny step at a time.
  • Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I've also cleaned house instead of working out - but hey, that IS a workout, too. Baby steps. Do one day at a time. I have found that immersing myself in Fitness mags, and books, and cutting out pictures of before and afters is very helpful. Dust yourself off and step back on that wagon. You've done it before.

One more thing - hang that wedding dress where you can see it!

I have had big problems with motivation. You need to figure out what will really get YOU going. For me, it was stuff (yes, I know it sounds materialistic, but for me it worked). I set very small goals and once I met them I got to buy something that I really had been wanting to buy. For example after losing 2 lbs I bought a book for my kindle, 5 lbs I bought a new shirt, 7 lbs I bought a new aerobics top. My ten pound "prize" is a birth stone necklace that my husband picked out. I still haven't reached that goal but it is very movtivating for me because I like jewlery. I only have 11 lbs to lose so my goals are pretty close together. Use whatever will get you going! Some people post before pictures up or clothes that they would like to wear. Those things did not work for me! Small goals and a reward system worked for me and take 1 day at a time. Good luck! You can do it!!!!

  • best advice I've read yet...thanks
  • I went strong for a very long time, and I think everyone has great advice. I've done it all before. I went so great that people started noticing that I was more active and getting slimmer, which to me, is the best thing. I love it when I hear "you're looking so great today." I never had that growing up, so it's a great thing. I don't recall exactly what happened but either I get sick and out of the routine, or my parents go on vacation so my routine's shaken up to handle taking care of their house and mine (for weeks). It's a pain to try to fit it all in when working full time and going to school full time. However, I know there are 30-60 minutes to push through. I really felt great on this site last time and motivated others to join. I really want that back. I really, really do. Maybe it's fear of failure or fear of actually getting down those sizes, but I feel trapped by the unknowns. Such a ridiculous feeling. Now that I've written it, it feels like I've etched a bit off. I think I'll just have to get back into the whole routine like last time, measuring my food, no sugars, I still don't drink coffee, goodbye soda again (although I drink caffeine free now, except a few dr. peppers a week), back to the treadmill. Gotta add new workout music to keep things poppin.

Thanks everyone. Maybe I just need to throw myself back in. I even did a 5k a couple months ago :) I'll update everyone later tonight. I have hw due at 11pm so I'll have to mutlitask but maybe this is what I really needed... A kick in the butt (maybe that's fairy dust :D)
