Strength Training - Help Wanted!

I want to incorporate some strength training into my exercise routine. For the past two weeks I have been doing at least an hour of cardio split between the elliptical and treadmill. Can anyone provide suggestions on a routine that incorporates 5 pound weights? The amount of time and sets? Please feel free to inbox me as well.

    What about carrying 5 pound weights in each hand while on the treadmill? I have seen girls at the gym doing this, could be something new to try if you haven't already. :)
