Anyone else "scale challenged"?

I wanted to see if anyone besides me has seen the scale move very little in their "weight loss journey" despite things like: clothes fitting way better; dropping a size; flat tummy; slimmer body in mirror; reduction in overall inches.

I have only seen the scale move 7 pounds but I've been doing a lot of Jillian Michael's videos the past three months and have gained a fair amount of muscle; I visibly have less fat and am way more firm. My waist is way smaller, as are my legs. I know that I should focus on the positives but when I see people just dropping pounds each week like it's a cake walk, well, I get discouraged.

Things to note: I'm about to be 40; I'm hypothyroid and been on medication 3 months (so I'm finally getting a metabolism back); I work out 30-90 minutes 5-6 days a week circuit training and average 250-500 cals burned per day. My cals are set at 1300 and I eat my exercise calories back. I'm 5'4".

Is this just going to be the way it is?? I'm at 140 and want to be at 130, 127 ideally).

No snarky comments, please. I'm really looking for some insights and guidance. Thanks.

  • Please keep in mind that sometimes the muscle forms before you start to see results on the scale. You sound as if you are doing things right, and no idea the timeline you have been waiting for a drop, but 7 lbs and all the other evidence you have witnessed shows you are progressing towards your goal. Muscle will form, and then the fat dissipates... sometimes the scale lags behind ;)

I have an underactive thyroid, take 6 - 8 gym classes a week, eat great, and also weigh more than I want to. Since changing gyms and working out much more, I've put on muscle (I've measured it) but my scale also weights me heavier than I want to be. Sometimes we work with what we have.

I'm 47, five three and a quarter inches tall. I weigh 122. I'd love to weigh what I did pre-baby (108), but it doesn't seem to happening - I work full time and a husband and kids. I don't know about reducing my food much more, or adding much more workouts than I have already. Sometimes that's our body, like it or lump it. I can't be in the gym full-time, I really can't. And that might be the only way to really change a person's body - besides surgery, that is.

I don't think that's snarky. I apologize if you think that it is.
