LMAO at the comments ... too funny i am in a body fat loss contest at the gym..if my plan works i will fill you all in.. im doing it the right way though and not with pills like ali.. im trying L-carnitine though and so far i havent seen any side effects at all from it. the only way i will know if it did anything is when i get measured at the end of the nine weeks to see what difference was made..diet is so important.. i read that green tea and lemon helps too so im also drinking that daily. there are foods you can eat that can help attack belly fat especially.. no pill out there is magical. the L-carnitine is an amino acid so my research showed that it is safe for me to take. whether it works or it works on anyone else i do not know. i know one thing... i got clean undies and no accidents!!!!0

NO I HAVEN'T TRIED IT AND I WOULDN'T BECAUSE I LIKE SOLID POOP.
I like oily discharge, all of a sudden my office chair would become an ice breaker.0 -
No even after I got a free bottle after hearing the same things from friends who had tried it.
I think sometimes it works for people because it forces you to either eat healthier or poop yourself.
Cutting out some of the fat in your diet will help you accomplish the same results without any embarrassing side effects.
Alli claims to block 30% of fat absorbtion. So if you can leave 1/3 of your burger on the plate you will see the same results.
There is a bigger difference in you choosing a quarter pounder without cheese over a double quarter pounder without cheese. By making that simple swap you have blocked the absorbtion of 46% more fat.
Decide to eat 30% less fat. Make better choices. Keep your diginty.0 -
I was on the diet for a bit and I asked my doctor about it and she almost had a cow and a few kittens when I mentioned. She said that it can cause too many health issues on top of the ones i already have. She said that their office isn't even allowed to prescribe the prescription version because they just don't like the medication.0

my doctor prescribed it to me as well and all of the above is true. for SURE don't eat mexican food while taking them unless you are actually sitting on the toilet while you eat.0
-
I would not do it. I took the prescription form, and let's just say,0

Fat does not make you fat, calories do. If you're concerned with how much fat is in your diet, look for lower fat alternatives. If you want to lose weight, watch your calories and/or exercise. Pills are not necessary, especially ones that make you spend more money on underwear.0

I was prescribed the higher dosage one (Xenical) by my doctor and they worked for a while (lost about 15lbs) but then that came to a halt so I stopped taking them. You have to be VERY careful with your fat intake - I couldn't go higher than, about, 12-15g of fat PER MEAL (and sometimes even that was too high) otherwise the dreaded accident occurs...and it isn't nice...at all (shudders at the memory) lol!!
The only reason I used them was because I was having A LOT of difficulty losing weight - thanks to PCOS.
Would I take them again...probably not - I've found a way of eating now that works, it's a lot easier and I feel so much better.
Do I regret taking them...not at all, I was stuck in a major rut and those badboys really helped.
Edit - just to add...they did help me realise how much cr4p I was eating...so, for that, I do thank them.
Pun intended?
The wonderful world of puns :laugh:0 -

Wrong. Running your butt off to get the toilet before the brown doom of shame happens is what really makes you lose weight. It's extreme HITT training!0 -

^This. I don't like alli, because it suggestest that *fat* is the problem. Fat is not the problem - eating too many total calories is. Alli doesn't help with overall calorie control or learning to eat a reasonable number of calories. You could gain weight even while taking alli if you do not control your overall calorie consumption. Why take something like this when it really offers nothing? You can lose weight without it (controlled eating, exercising) the same way that you lose weight with it (controlled eating, exercising). In fact, just throw out some of the fat that you would normally be eating (egg yolk, fat from meat, nuts, etc.) and you're essentially doing the same thing as Alli - you're just not making it go through your stomach first.0 -
Poop, there is is! shaka laka, shaka laka.
Ok, I literally just made all my co-workers come into my office to see what the hell I was laughing at :laugh:0 -

Hmmmm, I guess it does somewhat force you to do some cardio. I take it back, everyone should be taking Alli b/c it forces you go get off your butt unless you want to poop yourself. Might be the extra push some people need to get moving. LOL0 -
With all the ALI commercial lately...I actually considered it also but of course I had to see what MFP people thought and I'm glad I checked. I WONT be making that mistake, glad you guys kept me on track! :-)0

Stock up on underwear if you do.
^LMAO.
Why, why in God's name would someone do that to themselves?!
Because the consequences of cheating make you stick to the diet?0 -

You sir, Jeff92se, have made me laugh out loud about 3 or 4 times in this one discussion!!!!! I especially like "poop, there it is. shaka laka, shaka laka"!!!!!! Tag Team would be ever so proud...
So, the concensus seems to be that Ali is no friend to anyone. I vote for cutting down on fat and overall calories and doing cardio that doesn't involve fear of humiliation as your motivation.
Best of luck!0 -
I had an assistant that took them and crapped his pants at work and had to go home to change! So I am out! I don't care about farting but if I have to Shart or *kitten* in public I am out!!!! :glasses:0

If you take them, don't fart!
I can vouch for this, I have had to throw out several pairs of underwear. When I did it at a car wash with my father-in-law was the final straw and decided it wasn't for me. He still laughs at me and it has been 3 years.0
