  • The 30 day shred is meant to be done consecutively for 30 days, it's up to you whether you want to do that or not though. I've been doing it every day and adding cardio 3-4 days per week on top of that. It's definitely worth completing the shred properly though, it gives great results.

Melissa, I could not do 30DS consecutive days and I've read that it originally wasn't designed to be done 30 days in a row. Muscles need time to rebuild. I did shred every other day, alternating with a cardio { my usual is turbo jam or tae bo) and still was able to get some great results. Right now I'm doing round 2 only using level 3 every workout and still alternating with cardio.Don't get discouraged, listen to your body but push it just a little further than when it starts to groan. As far as the pushups go you can modify, I've read people doing wall pushups and I've actually used my stability ball to help with an old shoulder injury.Jillian's tough, but she grows on you!

I did the Shred and cardio on the same day so I think that's fine. Definitely take a rest day a couple times a week to let your muscles rest. I still did cardio on my rest days though - nothing strenuous, just something to keep the blood moving!

I still can't do regular pushups either - I still have to do them on my knees so don't worry about modifying. You're still getting a workout and going to see results with the modifications.

I can barely do them either. My boyfriend laughs WITH me because I do 3 then lay on my face till its over.
  • I was on day 7 of the shred on Wed. and was in so much pain in my back I couldn't do hardly anything. So I skipped yesterday and am going to try this evening to do it again. My back still aches once in awhile but I feel sooo guilty for skipping yesterday that I am going to try. I also got 2 biggest loser dvd's to try, but want to do the shred. My goal was to get to level 2 on day 11.

Try 2 things - 1 half push ups or box push ups - google them as seeing is better than I can write
and try lieing down to start then slap you hands down and push up and slowly come back down -I built to 10 in a few days like this - it is what cross fit advocates

The first time I did 30DS, I did it every day for 30 days without any issues. I too had to modify the push-ups but still got a good workout. I was also doing another weight workout 2 - 3 times a week with heavier weights (8-10 pounds) so I made sure to keep my 30DS weights at 2 pounds to reduce the risk of injury.

I agree. From what I've been able to read from Jillian, she always encourages taking 1-2 days off to let muscles rest. I think the name is misleading. I don't think she intended people to do it 30 days straight without ever resting. That leaves you open to injury.

I've had to take some days off, but I notice it's easier for me to give up when I do. right now I'm forced to take a day off because my left calf is horribly sore and I'm limping around the house as it is. I am still doing some exercise, but not the shred today.

As far as the push ups I can't do them either. I can't go to my knees because it causes me a lot of pain. I do wall push ups or go against the counter though and I try to get some in the rest of the day so I can try to build up the strength to do them the normal way. Good luck!
