So i'm adding chick peas/garbanzo beans to my diet- to add to salads, add to dinner etc. I read on google about making roasted chick peas and apparently they come out crunchy and wonderful! I'm definitely going to try that out once my pot of chick peas is cooked and cooled. What are your favorite seasonings to add? I'm thinking of making a cup's worth and trying a few different seasonings on 1/3C each of them to figure out what I like. I'm going to try Italian Seasoning on one, Parmasean, garlic and chili powder on another, any other ideas?

I really love the Happy Herbivore's roasted taco chickpeas [ http://happyherbivore.com/2008/05/chickpea-tacos/ ]. You could try using a commercial taco spice, with a dash of soy sauce and lemon juice.

Homemade hummus (1 tin of chickpeas, 2 tablespoons low fat mayo, lemon juice, 1/2 tsp coriander, 1/2 tsp cumin) is good, too. Try it with cucumber slices on crackers.

Wasabi powder, ground ginger, celery salt

blend of different chili powders with cinnamon

the same spices you would use in making Tikka masala...

Garlic powder, basil, oregano, kosher salt, black pepper

Thanks!! I'm a chick pea newbie- have had them in the past and liked them but never made them myself. I decided/discovered they're a perfect way to add fiber and protein to my diet! Perfect way to change up my snacks too. I get into too much of a "creature of habit" situation and end up eating the same things all the time, I think my body gets bored. Time to add some stuff that's new! Thanks for the idea- i love the idea of adding lemon or lime.... good idea!

i gotta try the ginger and soy sauce, sounds great! thanks! I'm going to have to do some serious exermimenting here with all of these great ideas! I'll roast up a cup or more of cooked and separate them into maybe 4 or 5 small bunches so that I can try the different seasonings.

Ever heard of "Herbs de Provence?" It's hard to find and can be a bit pricy. But it's my turn to spice when nothing else works and I am in a rush to flavor something boring.

yeah I dont know why I didnt think of them sooner! They're kinda carby but considering the rest of my diet's majority fruit/veggies and protein it'll be a perfect additive! Plus WAY better to put in my salad than sodium heavy tuna packets, pre-cooked chicken and pre-cooked steak that i've always used.

nope but I'm definitely going to look for it now! Sounds good. Wikipedia says: The standard mixture typically contains savory, fennel, basil, thyme, and lavender flowers and other herbs, though lavender was not used in traditional southern French cooking . sounds yummy! Thanks for the inspiration. Sounds like it'd be amazing on chicken too!
