Beans/Legumes-I'm confused on whether to include them in a weight lost diet.
Please let me know your views on eating beans. Are they just too high in carbs to be useful or do you find the slow energy release helps insulin control?

just me personally, i don't eat beans, except i do make my own low-cal hummus. Too many calories for me. When i get to my ideal weight, i will incorporate beans.0

I am not anti-carb or a low-carb eater. I am a vegetarian, and beans, peas, and lentils are a regular part of my diet.
A lot of the potential negatives in the article are not proven or are easily countered by properly soaking and cooking the beans (breaks down the lectins) and eating moderate amounts. Keep in mind that most of the anti-soy arguments rampant on the net, repeated here as general anti-bean arguments, can be traced back to a single, questionable source.
Do cultures that traditionally focus around beans have high rates of obesity, diabetes, and auto-immune disease? I'll leave you to research that one yourself.

thanks for your response,
I'm thinking about making one of my meals a veggie meal using beans of some sort but I'm worried about the carb content being too high.
I've look through the food diaries of the biggest loser here at MFP and I don't see a lot of bean eaters.0 -
I'm a vegetarian so beans are an integral part of my diet. Because the highest calorie items for me are usually my bread and beans, I don't find them "too high calorie" at all. They are very filling, contain lots of fiber and other nutrients. If you have to cut out healthy foods to stay within your calories, maybe you should be looking at the other things you're eating...0

Thanks,
I hope you don't mind if I take a look at your food diary for ideas.
