Should I count this as exercise?

I'm a Sonic carhop, and my job includes me walking around making food, cleaning, delivering food etc. Well I'm literally on my feet the entire I work, we don't get breaks at all. I'll work anywhere between two hours to eight hours. Should I count this as exercise? I have been putting it as a 3.0 walk because that's about the pace I'm going all day and probably more. Please give input!! :)

I think you could account for it in your profile when it asks about your normal activity level. That way it will calculate your calorie intake requirments for you.

personally, I wouldn't track it as exercise but you can change your settings where it asks about your activity level. I work a desk job, so I chose sedentary. for you, you could choose whichever best describes your workday/week. the more active you are, the more calories you will be allotted.
  • change your activity level. you're at work often enough that it's pretty much a part of your basic calorie needs and mfp will calculate that in for you. that way, when you do actual/intentional workouts (not saying what you do at work isn't exercise!), you're earning the right amount of calories back to feed yourself properly :)

I agree with the other post. Change your activity level.

I would change your activity level - which will give you more daily calories. I also work on my feet and I have my activity level set at "active", but MFP still doesn't give me enough calories. So, I customize mine.

While you ARE burning a bunch of calories while at work, your body is very used to doing it. Exercise should be things your body isn't used to doing on a daily basis.

I walk around most of the day at work too (I work in retail) and when I dont work I'm at home cleaning & chasing after my daughter. I do not count either as exercise, I count that as my "moderately active lifestyle"

I would only count it if its not something that you do all the time.

This. Your body is so used to doing it that its not gonna burn as many calories as if you had walked at 3 mph for the same amount of time.
  • I would change my activity level but I only work twice a week. I'm a student the rest of the time.
