Why is juicing so popular?

I've read that juicing is supposed to be extremely healthy for you. That they act as a diuretic, aiding weightless and digestion, and iare full of essential nutrients, but aren't the juices very high in carbs and sugar? Wouldn't they do the opposite of what people say the juices do?

I bought myself a juicer, i found that after like 600 calories of juice i would still be starving, where i could of just had some toast or something else.. And i would feel a little sick too from having just drunk like 5 oranges, 5 apples, etc, etc..
Im not sure what juicing is suppose to achieve, but i couldnt get anywhere positive with it. =/

The sugar really only becomes a problem when you juice a lot of fruits. The best way to juice is if you mostly put in veggies (mostly greens with fewer root vegetables). It's a good way to get a lot of nutrients, but I could never go hard core juicing like some people do or what that guy did in his documentary.

When I juice I will only put in one piece of fruit. The rest is made up of spinach, cucumbers, carrots, etc.

i want to get into juicing so bad, but It is so expensive here in ny to get all that organic fruit and veggie everyday. But you should watch this documentary "fat, sick and nearly dead". you will see why it's good for you. Also on youtube this guy named Dan does these raw food videos and talks about it. if you put in Dan Raw food or life re generator in youtube, you'll start seeing the videos, there are so many . I wish I could do it.

Trick is, to use more vegetables that fruit. Use a little fruit to sweeten it if need be.
Also, it shouldnt replace a meal.

Im starting to juice, as I have a hard time getting vegetables in, and dont drink enough water. So hoping I can kill to birds with one stone!

No, they're wonderful, but you must be aware of the calories.
And don't just juice apples and grapes; mix an apple with a few stalks of broccoli and a tomato. And throw in something with color like a squash. Hold your nose and drink it down!

    YUMMY!
  • Been there, done that. It did not work very long. I ended up getting horribly constipated when I used my blender to "juice" veggies and fruit up. I bought an actual juicer and ended up returning it because the fiberous parts of the fruits and veggies would end up in the "trash area" of the machine. And, imagine every carrot (for example) i used was about a tsp of juice.. literally! What a waste!

Juicing is a tasty way to get MANY vitamins and nutrients in, in a small package. It doesn't have to be high in sugar and carbs - if you juice the right combinations.

Most of the health benefits you are referring to come from Green Juices. There are many recipes on the internet. As others said, just a little bit of fruit will go a long way.

One of my favorite juice recipes:

    3 kale leaves
    3 carrots
    1 granny smith apple
    1 bunch of parsley
    an inch of ginger root

    Yummy!!!!

The old man wants to do this.... I think hes whacked and I just give him the disbelieving "okaaaay" look. He will do what he wants to do, but in the end he will just end up stuffing himself. I wish hed just do it the old fashioned way... The MFP way.... But thats too much work.... oh well... after its all said and done, Ill have a new juicer for when (I) want to make a juice cocktail.

People have the wrong idea about juicing. It should suppliment your diet, but not replace good eating habits. For those on a restricted calorie diet juicing is a great way to get essential nutrients in a tasty and compact manner. However, juicing eliminates alot of the fiber from fruits and vegetables so it's not as likely to fill you up compared to eating an apple and several carrots. I use juicing as a snack between meals, but not as a replacement meal. As already mentioned, reduce the amount of fruit used and you will reduce the caloric content. A rule of thumb when juicing. Juice your vegetables and eat your fruit.

The top main reasons why juicing is so beneficial, in my opinion, are:

    (1) Highly concentrated nutrition.

When you juice, you use more fruits and vegetables than you could actually eat. So, when you drink the juice form of the fruit and vegetables you are receiving highly concentrated nutrition, which means the amount it would normally take to fill you up wouldn’t have anywhere near as much goodness.

As a result, you are drinking a densely packed amount of vitamins, minerals and other plant-based nutrients.

    (2) Easy absorption

The juice requires hardly any digestion, so all its nutritional goodness gets quickly into your system without your body needing to do any work.

    (3) Liver detoxification

One the critical functions of the liver is to clean the blood and remove toxins and metabolic waste. With the amount of toxins we are dealing with everyday in modern life we need to be real diligent in helping to keep it “clean” so it can keep us clean!

Specific nutrients are required to allow the liver do its cleansing job. Antioxidants beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and N-acetyl cysteine are potent liver cleansers. In addition, B-vitamins riboflavin and niacin also aid liver cleansing. Cabbage, brussel sprouts and cauliflower have been found to be great for the liver.

Many people like drinking fruit and vegetable juice to detoxify their bodies for a few days every month or a day or two a week: This means they have nothing but fresh juices, fruit, fresh vegetables and water for the detoxification period.

Since the enzymes in the fruit and vegetables are still buzzing in their uncooked form, fresh juice is pure energy to support our natural life force.

    Other benefits include:

    (4) Increased energy levels

    (5) Improved immune system

    (6) Helping with healthy skin, hair, nails and eyes

    (7) Rebuild blood cells

Benefits of juice that is freshly made far outweigh those offered by bottled juice, and are well worth the time and effort that is required.

A fresh juice is made using a juicing machine called an extractor or simply a juicer. A juicer is a blender-like processor that removes the pulp and filters about 90% of the liquid matter into a cup or jug.

The fact is almost all fruits and vegetables can be juiced. Fruits and vegetables that are most commonly used for fresh juice include: apples, oranges, lemons, watermelons, grapes, carrots, beets, cabbage, spinach and other greens. Many people also like to include a small amount of fresh ginger or garlic for more spicy taste and an immune system boost.

I just got a ninja blender for Christmas ($89 at walmart) that does juicing, dough making, smoothies and chopping etc, its amazing! I usually juice something up to have with a meal or as a snack not a meal replacement

First juice I ever made with more than one fruit/veggie

    1oz spinach
    3 carrots
    1 apple
    1 packet of stevia

was amazing! just off the top of my head =) was only 78cals for 3/4 cup
