My big day. Right now, we already have 16 mph winds and they are just going to increase. It's only 27 miles though. They are lining us up by guessimated average speed - so I'll be last  - maybe the other cyclist will block the wind?

I was bummed because the ride I was planning for the end of April falls on the same day as a yoga class I'm teaching. I found another ride though. This one is the end of March - so I will, weather permitting, do a 50 mile in March. Also, there's one on April 11th, that's closer to my house.

Yesterday I walked for 23 minutes. I was doing some cleaning and twinged my ankle on the stairs, so I didn't go to yoga. We lucked out and our friends had to cancel dinner last night - so I got to have pasta.

Happy workouts y'all,

Mary

Go, Mary Go! Ride like the wind. . .(sorry, couldn't help it.)

    Today is Bikram at 3.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get a body composition test again. . .but I'm afraid that it will show me up in body fat rather than down. I'm bigger in my upper body (especially in my shoulders and upper back, which is more muscle-y) but also in my gut region (which, unfortunately, is not more muscle-y  ) I'm going to spend some time today thinking about whether or not that's what I need to do now. I may wait a few more months, as ignorance is a little bit blissful. I will do my measurements today, and compare them against the "fitness test" measurements I had last summer.

OK, I'm quitting with my complaining now. Complaining is not happy flappy (Everytime I say or type that, I smile.)

I'm also meeting with a life coach this morning (stop laughing) she specializes in getting PhD students "un-stuck". . .so I'll update you, unless I'm too busy graduating.

    Take care, pebbles.:heart::flowerforyou:

Mary, I hope your ride went well! (assuming you will get this after the fact)
Vivia, I like what you said in your post yesterday about doing what our challenge actually is and not focusing on "skinnier". Maybe that's why I have been discouraged.
Well, Steve (DH) has the day off from everything, surprisingly, so he wanted to go out and do something. I prefer something active so maybe some hiking or something. We need something active because Alex came into our room like four or five times last night, about every hour, until Steve got after him. We are tired, so exercise would be good.
My back still hurts. I did 20 push ups a little while ago to see if that would help loosen it up. Didn't seem to make a difference one way or another.
I'd better get ready to go somewhere. Wherever it is. Happy flappy!

:explode: Nothing like getting really mad at your hubby then going for a walk to blow off steam. Got my exercise in for the day! I may try to do some push ups to see how far I get.

Ride went well. Burned almost 1300 calories. Took 2.6 hours to finish 27 miles - which is slow - but it was hilly! Most people walked up the big hills - and we are talking about people on $2000 road bikes. We walked up too. My HR hit 102% of max at one point. The wind wasn't bad though. The trees blocked most of it.

    Off to eat lunch!

Hello ladies! I am officially DONE DONE DONE - I turned in the bound copies of the documentation for my capstone to the department yesterday, they submitted my grade, and there is nothing more to do. I feel like I've got a whole new life - one that doesn't involve ignoring my husband for hours, not exercising, and spending way too many nights at the coffee shop. Huzzah! And V - you can do it too!

I am so excited to be able to start exercising again. It's a little weird that I'm saying that (I am really rather lazy by nature  ), but I am. I decided to do a push up test today to see how much ground I've lost. The most I had managed before I quit was 88 - today I did 58. So, not bad at all - but I still have a lot to make up. But, I'm not starting again until Monday, because I have a massage scheduled for today. Yes!

I've also been wanting to get another body composition test done, but not yet. I think the next month will just be me getting back into shape, and then maybe I can start losing again after that. We'll see. I've been eating more lately (and more junk), so my appetite seems bigger. I've maybe gained a couple of pounds - hard to tell with my psychotic scale - but I know I've lost some muscle. My triceps are sore after those push ups this morning.

Vivia, I liked your blog post about kitchen prep. I love steel cut oats, but had no idea you could freeze them. If I remember, I'll do the night-before method (add oats to boiling water, cover and turn off heat, then they only take about 10 minutes in the morning), but I think making it ahead is probably better. I add a bunch of frozen berries and pecans, and sometimes a spoonful of brown sugar.

Mary, congrats on your ride!! (edited because you posted while I was typing up this novel  )
MM, sorry you had a fight with your hubby - I hope you managed to get out and do something fun anyway.
I need to go back and catch up on a few of the posts - I missed you guys! :flowerforyou:

CP, congratulations! You should be really proud of yourself.

And the same goes for you, Mary. . .strong work all around, ladies.

MM, I hope that things smoothed over at your house. . .I hate "unrest.", even as a workout motivator.

I saw the coach today, and it was really good (if a bit brutal at times) we looked at my "average" week (interesting fact. . .she called my exercise a "part time job". and "the hinge that my entire life is on.") and how many hours there were left in it, and decided that 8 hours a week is a reasonable amount of time to work on the current project. [a huge annotated bibliography for one of my comps that I have a raging case of the "don't wannas!" about] Sample quote: "you don't have to like it, you just have to do it." Note that this is the same advice I would give someone who was saying "I hate to exercise!. . .how should I motivate myself?"

The catch is, now I have to go back in a week and show her what I did with the eight hours I pledged to her. In my conversation with her, I got to the heart of the matter: I'm procrastinating because I feel like I don't deserve to finish.:noway: (facepalm.) Well, my new mantra on the way to the library (for two hours a day, four days a week) is "I deserve to finish."

I measured myself, and it's official. I'm bigger. My waist at the bellybutton is up an inch, and at the smallest point, it's up two inches. My hips are also bigger, but I'm actually glad for that because I have a patootie again. (that was my first weight training goal. . .as I'd gotten a bit flat back there in a bad way.) I'm going to use the measuring as a tool every week. My doctor also wants me to watch the amount of "bloat" I get with the cyst mess, so this is a tool to do that as well.

    Welcome back CP!!!!!

For the dude in yoga class - don't come to one I'm teaching - you will regret it. bwahhahaha. I know the type - the look of surprise when I do a difficult pose. And the look of joy on mine when I find their weakness and have them work on it. "Can't touch your toes? We are doing splits pose today."

That is so un-yogic of me. Actually, I usually do something that helps everyone see their strengths (women: hamstrings, shoulders, men: arm balances, hips, or whatever). My husband said today that I was a great motivator. I was cheering people up hills and commiserating with those that had to walk.

I also love watching the look on people's face when I tell them I'm doing the ride on a cruiser. I'm ready for the next ride! Three weeks away!

One day I hope to learn to be still in Savasana.

Yay! CP's back! My day just got a little brighter! :smooched:

Mary, so when are you going to bike in the Hotter than Hell in Wichita Falls?

My day was rough. Alex was a pill all day. It took me awhile not to be mad at my hubby anymore. I hope tomorrow is a little better. At least I finally got some good exercise in!
    See you tomorrow!
