Hey there. I joined this site a while back when I was trying to lose weight and tone up.

Now fast forward a year or so and I find myself unexpectedly pregnant and my doctors keep harping on me to gain more weight, gain more weight....it is such a confusing change to make...

What happened was I lost almost 10 lbs early on due to extreme and vomiting coupled with no apetite...probably 5 of those 10 pounds I lost were "extra" weight anyways...

Now I am 31 weeks pregnant (7 1/2 months) and I've only gained a grand total of 7 pounds over my starting weight (16 pounds up from my lowest point).

It's strange to change mentalities and TRY to gain weight. I'm not sure I can "re-train" my brain. I mean I haven't been dieting or anything while I've been pregnant...but over the last couple of years I've just learned to make healthier, low fat choices and learned to LIKE those choices and I've spent a lot of energy making sure to eat only when I'm HUNGRY and not to overstuff myself...I'm having a hard time adjusting.

It would be really easy to eat more CALORIES by filling up on carbs and junk foods, but I don't want to do that, I don't think it will be any healthier for my baby and I don't want to fall back into old habits and then end up overweight again. But at the same time I have to do SOMETHING and eating as much protein as they are suggesting seems like a CHORE. They have referred me to a nutritionist, but I can't get in for 3 weeks so I figure I'd better get started on this now since I only have 9 weeks left of being pregnant.

I welcome any tips or words of encouragement, especially from anyone who's been there.

I NEVER thought I'd have this problem.

When I first found out I was pregnant I remember thinking "great, I'm gonna get fat and then I'll have to spend a year or more working out like crazy and dieting and this is just not fair because I'm finally where I want to be"

Then it just didn't happen that way at all....

Every winter I gain a few pounds, that's just the way I am. Not this year (well, I did gain a few pounds but only about as much as the fetus + fluids + placenta actually weigh)

And what else is strange is that I've been unusually sedentary because I can't do many of my regular sports and hobbies as they are too dangerous so I really don't understand what's going on...

Must mean you have a healthy metabolism paired with good choices!
did they give you a calorie count to aim for? or tell you to eat more "fatty" or higher protein foods? seems odd to just "gain weight", id call back and see if they could give you more specifics
