I'm reading a book on how to be a NON smartass. We'll see how that goes.:bigsmile:0 -

I am really enjoying the banter, so I hate to interject a question - how are you feeling? Perky and ready to set the world on fire, or lethargic and unmotivated? Or somewhere in between? If you are feeling kind of lethargic, chances are your metabolism is responding to a lack of caloric fuel. There is a thread where someone posted an article about fixing your broken furnace (metabolism). If you're like me, and have been doing the yo-yo diet thing for a while, this could be part of the problem. Check out that thread. I am reading this book right now called "Flip the Switch" by Robert K. Cooper, Phd about turning your metabolism up. He has a bunch of small suggestions that help start the metabolism early and keep it on all day. For example, do you eat first thing (within 30 minutes) after getting up? Do you exercise your major muscle groups some all day. So, for those of us that sit for a living, we need to get up and move about every 30 minutes if possible. Do you spend some time outside in the daylight? Do you breathe deeply, taking in a lot of oxygen? Do you stay hydrated? How is your posture? Turn down the heat, to make your internal furnace work more. How much stress are you under? Stress can be a serious inhibitor of weight loss for women, especially belly fat loss. Do you get plenty of good quality rest? Doyou drink a lot of caffine? Studies show that small servings of caffeinated beverages can boost metabolism, but too much causes the reverse effect as the body slows down in an attempt to maintain balance. Do you drink alcohol? Whenever you drink alcohol, your body burns less fat. Those are just some things to be mindful of.0 -
Wow... that's lots of questions.
I am kinda in the middle. Somedays I am off the wall but I get really tired at times. I don't sleep real well due to stress. I am a worrier, and my fiance is currently in Iraq...so i haven't gotten REALLY good sleep for quiet a few months.
I don't eat until I get to school, then I eat cheerios in soy milk before my kids show up. Also, snacks are REALLY hit and miss cause I am teaching and don't have much time to sneak in lots of snacks. I am working on drinking enough water, somedays are WAY better then others.
I don't drink alcohol. I gave up soda for Lent... and I am too cheap to buy coffee.... I barely buy 1 green tea a week! Posture is good.0 -
It is a lot of questions - sorry. While I am CLEARLY no expert (see profile:blushing: ) I kind of wonder of stress and not eating regularly are some of your problems. This article http://www.sheknows.com/articles/804529.htm explains the relationship between belly fat and the stress hormone, cortisol. Also, the book I mentioned earlier by Cooper mentions that we are better able to handle larger meals early in the day, which is just about opposite of what most of us do.
I don't know if that is at all helpful. Good luck!0
