scales that measure body fat--r they accurate?

I FINALLY lost three and a half pounds after weeks of nothing. Yeah!!! however........the scale also measures body fat and it tells me that I went from 48% to 51% body fat. I never believed the 48% body fat in the first place, but felt I would follow the trends, so to speak. I have 80 pound to lose, am 5'7" and weigh 238. I was discouraged about the body fat indicator. I am also confused, as I have been eating 1200-1500 cals, with 100GMS of protein religiously. I also drink my water. Why is my body fat so high and why did it bump every time I lose weight. If anyone has thoughts, I would love to hear them.
